The amendments offered by Republican legislators on this bill are just catfish amendments, intended to kill the whole bill or just slow it down with unnecessary length.
The federal criminal statutes on fraud provide a vigorous enforcement option, against illegal aliens committing fraud. As does the Federal False Claims Act.

]]>All of August, we have heard the Teabaggers screaming, "Read the Bill." We have to assume that Joe Wilson read the bill. The bill in question setting up the public option does so through "affordability credits."
Section 246 of the Bill is captioned as follows:

Then Section 246 reads as follows:
"Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."
Joe Wilson said that President Obama was lying. By doing so he lied.
Joe's lie is just one of many designed to stir up the base. The health care bill lies have become a list of all the evils which Jesse Helms used to use to stir up fear: non-whites, communism, abortion, euthanisia, welfare queens, and illegal aliens.
The lies and incitement are escalating and are dangerous.

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them!
Wilson lied. He continues to lie about the issue of illegal immigrants, while saying he has apologized.
The original bill has a specific exclusion for illegal aliens. See Section 246 of the bill for the language. There is no need for enforcement in this bill, since enforcement is automatically provided criminally through federal criminal laws on fraud and civilly through the Federal False Claims Act. All he can point to to defend his opinion are some Republican amendments which failed. Killing Republican "catfish" amendments.
The story is that the charade is over. Now we see the men behind the curtain pulling the levers.
Republican surrogates have been spreading lies through the Limbaugh-Beck Disinformation Expressway for months. They have been happy to let Teabaggers and Birthers parrot this drivel all over the place. That way they can distance themselves from the lies, while letting the lies run wild.
Now we have an elected Republican liar on tape. Let's find out how all the rest of elected Republicans stand on this lie.

The lack of enforcement mechanism argument holds no water. The federal False Claims Act applies to the application for any federal monetary benefit, imposing civil penalties as well. The wealth of U.S. criminal statutes for Fraud would also apply. Not to mention, the rules of the INS and state law.
Bottom line is that Republicans want to beat Obama on this bill and are heaping upon it a pile of all of their fears: brown people, Reds, Euthanizers, Abortionists, welfare queens and all the rest.
It has become like a montage of Republican scary campaign commercials of the past 30 years!
All that has not made it yet is that Al Queda will be aided by health care reform.

Columbia is part of Wilson's District.
On top of that, Wilson was a Republican Senator during the period when the flag was moved from atop the Capitol dome and permanently placed on a monument on the grounds.
