Unemployment and healthcare?

Well it has been a long time since the last time I blogged here but somethings have happened this week that has me wanting to.

First I read all my old blogs and have decided I was wrong about people who were on unemployment.  Well I had 3 jobs when I first started blogging here and now I have none. I was layedoff last week and found out that it is very hard to find a job that pays as much as my unemployment So I have decided that I will try to get some things done that I didnt have time for  like get my GED and my drivers liscence. Then maybe try to farther expand my education. But I can finally see why people dont work  before I thought you were just lazy if you didnt.

The other thing that I found out last week is if it wasnt for medicare I would be financially ruined healthcare is very expensive. My son has been in ICU for a week now and it would be very expensive we are talking if I sold everything I have and every penny I will make  for a few years I still wouldnt be able to pay his bills. That is crazy!!

So I keep thinking all this happened becouse I was so  up tight about people that didnt work and insurance that goes with working ( by the wat after Oct. 31 I no longer have insurance) so I had to be showed just what it is like . Now I know and it is not nice.

Well I hope everybody is having a nice day.

Bummer to hear about your layoff, Red. Hope things work out OK for you.

It was not cause and effect, but it sounds as though it's definitely an eye-opener. I'm not saying this as an "I told you so!" but rather because the inability to see ourselves in another's situation is pretty common.

I do hope things work out for you. And you still have friends here, whether you have visited recently or not.

Thank you OG I am pretty sure things will be fine. But like you say it sure was an eye opener

No, all this happened because we're in a bad recession. Do not take it personally, Red. Just continue doing what you can to better your life, and know that you're on the right path.

Keep your chin up and do what you have to, to care for yourself and your family.
I'm glad you've got some of the safety net under you and yours.

And talk to a few of your friends and neighbors. One at a time, using a light touch is best. Remind them - it can happen to them, too. And that what we're trying to do is make sure that there is a floor no one can fall below.

Oh red! No, no, no! It wasn't anything you did. You have just been handed a dose of 'reality' that too many in our country are facing.

You can be an effective spokesperson now, because you know what you know. You can speak to both sides. Your experience on this is invaluable. Remember that.

More blogs are definitely in order, and hugs to you and your wife and son. I'm sure you can't have enough of those, even if they are only cyberhugs.

(((((hugs)))))

I'm so glad to hear your son is doing better.

Red, sorry about all these terrible troubles. I hope your son recovers; you didn't say what his problem was -- don't know if it was an accident, but he will have more needs for health care regardless in the coming months, no doubt.

I just wish every Senator and Representative could have your experience, because there is a problem. I saw it from things you had said before that you alluded to here -- "If you're not working you are lazy." You found out the hard way. I wish our elected Congress could get that same lesson somehow.

The dope who said last week, "I don't need maternity coverage," demonstrated the republican way of thinking: "IF I DON'T NEED IT IT ISN'T IMPORTANT." They just can't fathom what it is like to work hard, lose your job, (or even keep it) and not be able give your family what it needs -- a house. Food, Medical care. Clothing -- They just can't imagine.

Glad you came and spoke up!

Red, Sorry to hear about your son, I hope he is okay. Keep us posted.

It seems like all of TPM is being laid off, hell even our resident republican MIddle Class Bill was laid off. Good to have you back though

I was wondering what happened to you, red. good to see you back, though I'm sorry to hear about your son and his condition not getting better (not to mention your job). Glad to hear he's getting care at least. Keep us up to date.

Sad to hear of your troubles, Red. You have no fault. That accusation commonly made by those opposed to healthcare reform is a myth. Sorry to hear it come into your reality.
