fishing
well i havent blogged in awhile and was sitting here talking to someone who is very special to me and she mentioned i should, so here it goes.
I picked this subject becouse if your like me fishing brings back a lot of good memories. I can still remember the first time my step dad took me .
It was a sunny day in april and we sat at the bank and didnt catch a dang fish all day . It was the first and only time I can remember me and him actually talking. To this day I think he had it planned that way. The fish were biting but we were always not paying attention.
Now it has been a long time since I've been fishing. Work gets in the way and life isnt what it use to be. For one I've moved to a different state and what they call lakes here we call ponds back home.
But I think I'm going to have to go becouse fishing as everyman and most women know is about the only way to trully clean out your mind and forget about problems if only for a few hours. And I know I need that right about now.
If I just had a fishing partner. Anybody game??
Well here's hoping everybody is having a nice day. And lets all dust off our fishingpoles and reline them becouse this world needs some clean minds doing the thinking now more than ever.

I still have a yet unused dipnetting permit for the Copper River here in Alaska. King Salmon fishing has been canceled for most of where I live in Alaska (Wasilla).
The thought of filling my freezer with Copper River Red Salmon drives me to distraction.
First thing I thought when Palin announced her resignation and went fishing,
Should we all be so lucky to just quit our job on the Friday of a holiday weekend and go fishing =-)

Good to see your blog here, Red.
I don't fish but I can picture it - being alone or with another seems to be so peaceful - alone, I would probably be in touch with the surroundings and listen to the boat with little waves lapping against it. I doubt I would care much if I caught anything. Do not think I would like taking the darn fish off the hook. Squeamish that way - LOL.
Thanks for making it sound so wonderful - maybe I will go sometime.........

I love fishing on the Long Island Sound. I used to go fluke fishing all the time with my first boyfriend. Fluke are like flounder, only the eyes are either on the same side of their head, or the opposite. I can never remember...all I know is they taste delicious after a long day out on the Sound.
Now, I was spoiled when he took me out on the party boats, because all the deck hands out in Montauk are nice to the ladies and they help you prepare the hook.
When I moved to California I got a job with Fenwick, the fishing rod folks that were bought out by Berkeley, and I went out on a party boat with some of my coworkers who were really serious fishermen, and no one was willing to help me bait my hook, so I had to do it on my own, all squeamish and stuff. What a jerk I must've looked to them all, LOL. Anyway, I got the hang of it eventually.
I love a day out fishing. Being on the water is so relaxing and refreshing all at once.
Thanks for taking me back there, Red.

The first time my dad took ME fishing--just me and NOT my brother--we went out on the Pacific and I won the pool for largest fish.
It wasn't fair, though, I couldn't pull it in by myself, so some of the cute deckhands helped me.
I split the money with them, my dad was proud that I wanted to.
I don't remember what it was, I just remember eating the red snapper my dad caught.
Mmmmmmmmm red snapper..... Lets go, red!
=D

Sometimes I don't think I really want any fish bothering me when I'm fishing...

There is certainly something sweet about enjoying the river, the sun and the wind out there on the water - then not having to clean/process any fish =-)

Thank you for your post--it brought back a lot of memories.
Fishing has always been a big part of my life. As a youngster, growing up on the shores of Lake Ontario, fishing was something we always did. It was fun and enjoyable. I spent a big part of my summers at my favorite Aunt's cottage on Long Point-the peninsula jutting out on Lake Erie. There were a bunch of kids and some who lived there year around who had their own boats. We would fish, swim and have all kinds of fun. I especially liked it when we would play hide and seek in the boats among the many channels leading to the open lake. We were out all day and well into the evening and sometimes even in the dark. The sounds of all the big ole bullfrogs was an added bonus.
We had no weatherman and used nature as our barometer. Prior to rain, the lily pads would come up out of the water about 4-6 inches. We also kept an eye on the Poplar, Willow and Linden trees to see if their leaves had turned upside down-an indication of approaching rain. We didn't have many wants or needs during those days. We just kept busy and had lots of fun.
Now I am content just being out in the boat-sitting in the sun reading and doing Sudoku puzzles and manning the camera in the event Sleepin catches the big one (Musky).

I got one better.
I just got a bag of free, freshly caught fish tonight - halibut and salmon.
Generous friends and fresh fish. Life doesn't get much better - even when you live in Wasilla =-)

Redneck, there's another way. Just go out to a nice spot in the woods where there's water and sit there quietly. If you don't move much after about 30 minutes all the critters start coming out and it's just magnificent. I think you mind just gets occupied with the task at hand - being as unobtrusive as possible, so it kind of cleans things out.
Not to say fishing ain't kewl, though.

Nature and solitude is the best medicine for whatever ails.
I'm a birdwatcher and I'm lucky enough to live in Alaska where we have an incredible bird population.
The fatness of the red-breasted robins feasting on the insects of my lawn gives me a great deal of joy - and I can watch them from my office window!
