It is an amazing reality that she has not done a press conference.
I just caught the SNL bit and I am impressed that they found a way to have Sarah Palin on the show and totally slam her at the same time. I am surprised that she did this bit because it really didn't flatter her at all and she didn't feel like she was on the inside of the jokes very well.
I thought she looked unhappy to be there and completely failed to connect with the audience. It was very unimpressive. (And I'm not just being partisan here. I think McCain's pretty funny when he goes on there.)
I thought Alec Baldwin was great, he said all those things about Palin right to her face while calling her "Tina." That was hilarious.
I think she wanted to be on SNL because it would be "cool", and her handlers thought she could use some easy press exposure to somee light-hearted fun from the anti-America America. I agree with the others here that it really didn't work. SNL did not treat her with kid gloves, and she was not in on the humor, indeed. I thought the Weekend Update piece was hilarious, and while she was able to bob her upper body to the music, I did not see her laughing at the fun had at her expense.
Sometimes it's hard to believe we're living through this...
I was surprised, frankly. 'Irrepressibility' and spunk is part of her charm, and I've been giving her credit for that part, at least, being authentic. But it sure wasn't present last night. -- For the first time, I felt a bit sorry for her. It's clear that McCain and the Reps. did her a real disservice by tapping her, but that was balanced off (in my mind) by her total lack of reality in accepting the selection. But looking at her on SNL I realized that by now she *probably* realizes what a collossal mistake it was .... but what are her options now? Cut and run? or 'soldier' on to the inevitable end? Of those two, keeping on keeping on is the braver, more noble choice. --- Of course, those fleeting feelings will dissolve immediately the next time she does one of her nasty, nasty turns in a rally speech or denies reality as she did about the Troopergate report. But for a moment or two there, I felt rather sorry for her and gave her a semi-salute for continuing to keep her composure and keep working despite feeling (knowing?) it's futile and only hurting her future.
Everytime someone says "but she's a Governor" I inevitably think "and Lester Maddox became a Governor too --- mistakes do happen."
