A Short List of Things I Know

I know I love most people.

I know I'm lucky to be here.

I know things are scary right now, but I also know they were scary thousands of years ago too.

I know most people are inherently good and well-meaning.

I know some are not.

I know that I will never know whether or not that matters when the time comes for them to die.

I know that I will never know whether or not that matters when the time comes for me to.

I know that while I'm here on this planet, and alive, I'd like to make a difference.  In a good way.

I know that money is a stupid thing to strive for but it keeps our species alive, for now.

I know that love is the best thing to strive for, because it lasts a lot longer than my 401K.

And, um, that's about it.  The rest is all guess-work.

Also.

user-pic

Um, I kinda ripped off The Commenter Formerly Known As NCSteve's title of his post here, so for that, I apologize.

He can keep his undies and bra, though. I won't rip those off. Heh heh.

user-pic

Just as well. My undies are all in a bunch over it, anyway. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get into my heels, chop down some trees and press some wildflowers.

user-pic

Oops, wrong avatar! Shame on me! Well, but you wear heels anyway, so it's all good, heh heh heh.

user-pic

You are such a lumberjack.

user-pic

I feel lucky you are here also LisB. It might be a year but I look forward to reaching out of the virtual and meeting you and your chicken friend. hahahaahhaaha

ps. I do not always wear pajamas.

user-pic

Er, is that a threat or a promise

=D

user-pic

LOL! I think it's a bit of both.

user-pic

BOTH

user-pic

Dickon, you can come to NY wearing anything you want to wear. I will hug you in public even if you're in your jammies. And I will keep on hugging you until you have to go home again.

user-pic

Thank you both for inspiring this lil post while the three of us were talking tonight.

I luvz you guys.

user-pic

May I be so bold as to add one thing to your list? I know that the world is a better place with you in it.

user-pic

Oh, Missy. Same right back at ya, honey.

Grouch, down there, you too.

user-pic

I know that late nights here at the Cafe can get interesting, and that as interesting as they get, three-dimensional space is still where we all live.

I know that having friends here is cool too.

I know I consider you one.

user-pic

Nice, Lis...wonderfully thoughtful, as usual. I'm so glad we are friends...

user-pic

Nice, Lis...wonderfully thoughtful, as usual. I'm so glad we are friends...

user-pic

Me too, Stilli. Smooch!!

user-pic

I'll take issue with that last one. See, it depends on whether you're well diversified in commodities, money market funds and short term T-bills, with perhaps some hedging through derivatives and bond-market etf's (avoiding subordinate bonds, of course)...

Other than that, your posts always work on me like late-night vodka shots - clear, cool, simple, yet warms and lightens the soul as I head off to bed.

user-pic

sorry about that first bit. Got stuck in a neural rut coming over from Steve's post...

user-pic

Heh.

user-pic

Politics, opinions, propositions, counter-proposals, news and analysis... These blog pages are full of the writings of many, including myself, who think they've got something to say on the important topics of the day.

But then you can count on LisB to post one of her gems that so gently remind us of the things that REALLY count in this world.

You did it again here, LisB, and I thank you for it.

user-pic

Awwwww, thank you Jeezus.

user-pic

Great list!

Only one I'd like to add:
I know that if you bump your shin on the coffee table, it hurts like crazy.

user-pic

Yeah, Frizzeh, I know something quite similar, but it involved my little toe and the metal middle bar that holds my futon up.

user-pic

Toes and doorframes don't get along all that well, either. But I'll bet it was interesting to hear me cursing...

user-pic

I know that Dickday is so prolific is scares me. I was here in 1980 when Mount Saint Helens erupted and he is as awe inspiring an eruption of words as St. Helens was of rock and ash.

I know that TheraP is my therapy. She sits and listens and listens and listens and then says a few words that put me back in touch with my humanity, just when I’m about to sell it to the devil for just one little explanation of something, anything.

I know that Quinn knows everything I don’t know, which is to say everything.

I know better than to not obey Obey. He seems to understand my mistakes before I make them.

I know The Old Grouch is the salt for my Marguerite without which it would not taste good enough to want another and another and another.

I know that Bwak is Athena in the form of a chicken, the god of Wisdom.

And I know Ms. B. that you are more and more and more, as we find out each time you write to us.

(I know that I should say more but like Chauncey Gardiner I’m really just here because “I like to watch.”)

user-pic

Heh, and I know you're a very good friend who always likes to hear the "details, details".

Hugs!

user-pic

Larry - never listen to the pug! He gets caught in arguments with crazy people who believe 'interior designers' should take over science, or something.

"I like to watch" LOL!

user-pic

Athena?

Ack! War?

Wot?!! Larry!? You haz some 'splaining to do. I'd much prefer to be a minor deity, like, a tree nymph.

'kay?

user-pic

There's a warmth that comes from you I find absolutely breathtaking. You speak of things so important with such a soft voice that I marvel at how you retain that inner beauty so effortlessly. I also very much enjoy the sense of humor that comes with these revelations. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Would you be willing to offer some DNA for cloning purposes?!?

user-pic

Golly! I'm honored but a little skeered at the thought. One of me is more than this earth needs, TRUST me! I helped contribute quite a bit to me mum's gray hair collection, LOL.

But thank you so much for the sweet words, Zap. I'm very touched.

user-pic

1) Nothing.

I assume much, remember less, feel plenty.

user-pic

Great comment, Tom!! Love it.

user-pic

I don't know very much. In fact, just about the only thing I know for certain is that the older I get, the less I know. So, I just don't know. You know? :)

user-pic

I know, believe me, I know. =D

user-pic

I know that coming late to the post means I get to give a bigger group hug. ((((( LisB Bwakfat The Commenter Formerly Known as NCSteve dickday barefooted The Old Grouch stillidealistic Obey SleepinJeezus [who looks strkingly like Studs Terkel] Frizzletoad LarryH GregorZap Tom Wright ))))))

I sport a 38" sleeve, so I can get you all in, just.

user-pic

also ((((((boyd Reed)))))who snuck in while I was copying all the names.

user-pic

{{{GROPE HUG}}}

We love ya too, amike!!!

xoxo!

user-pic

Also. (Hugs amikes ankles)

user-pic

HEY!!! The pug gets nothing but Steve laughing at my rut, and Amike's hand on my ass!! I'm gettin' jipped!! all that after doing such a fine job on your kitchen and all.

(just kidding, love your writing. I'm checkin' out your archives as I speak, honey...)

(transvestite?!) lol!

user-pic

Oh, you know I love you, ya big puppy dog! Didn't I just scratch you behind your ears the other day??

Ah, yes, the sweet transvestite blog! I think I was writing about the great controversy that was, um, some chick (dude?) that was blogging here rather annoyingly and everyone was up in arms about who it might possibly really be. You know how we're always getting involved in these "Is that really so-and-so disguising himself with a pseudo again??" discussions....

At least, I think that's what my point was, at the time. More than likely I just wanted to dance around in my lingerie...

*smooch to the pooch*

Feel better now?

user-pic

hahah! much better...

Lis, I know you're a cat-person and all, but just fyi, according to the authoritative Percy's Guide to Pugs, we require daily back-scratching, crackers and a bowl of Belvedere vodka. Not that it's your responsibility or anything... just sayin'.

user-pic

*runs to the liquor store for vodka*

What kind of crackers?

user-pic

nonono... didn't mean to kick up a fuss or anything. You sit down and read your TPM. The pug's good, he's got his cheese nips, vodka bowl, and some good reading!! :0)

user-pic

Kewl....glad to hear the pug is happy.

*scratches the big puppy behind its big ears*

How 'bout the belly? You like belly rubs?

=D

user-pic

mmmmmm :0P

user-pic

really, I;m amazed. It's like you're hyper sweet, but still, never too sweet.

user-pic

And when I get into the weird place about expressing feelings, I can't type worth a sh*t. I had to edit this about 5 times before I posted. Still havin' those feeling thingies.

user-pic

I'm blushing, Zap. I don't know what it is, I'm sort of a mix of sugar and spice, I guess?

I never knew that could be such a befuddling turn-on for guys. I'm kinda embarrassed now, heh.

And yet, sorta not. =)

user-pic

It's all good!

At the end of the day, you're just you and I think that's beautiful. You're willing to expose your heart out in the open and let people see your beauty. It's all good!

PS - Your mom did a mighty fine job raising you.

user-pic

Awwww....my mommy would like you.....even if you're a librul.

user-pic

Lis, long time no talk. Excellent post. If everyone knew what you know, we would be in great shape!

user-pic

Skeery thought!

Bio

There she is, my little one, So quick to be hurt, so quick to grin, Timid, afraid, holding out her hand, Yet many a heart she will always win. Playing, reading, talking to her dolls, Then time for cuddling, time for a kiss. She whispers, “I love you” in my ear, There she goes, my sweet little miss. Blond hair tied up in pert little bows, Skin so soft and smooth like a dove. One minute a tear, next a smile, That’s my child, my littlest love. - Mum
