The Lay-Off: A Poem
I've been here so long
and I work hard
Why me?
I have a newborn child
I don't know how I'm going to feed her
Why me?
I gave this place everything
and I have all this knowledge
Why me?
I just started but I had such high hopes
Why me?
Why me?
The economy
Oh
Well
Yes, it sure is hell
But so is going home to my wife
tonight
and letting her know
'Oh, I've been let go'
You hope it all will turn out right
Oh
Gee, thanks
It's been nice
We'll keep in touch
I'll be alright
I get to sleep late
for a while
It was nothing personal
and I won't take it wrong
but I wish I didn't have to take it
at all
and I work hard
Why me?
I have a newborn child
I don't know how I'm going to feed her
Why me?
I gave this place everything
and I have all this knowledge
Why me?
I just started but I had such high hopes
Why me?
Why me?
The economy
Oh
Well
Yes, it sure is hell
But so is going home to my wife
tonight
and letting her know
'Oh, I've been let go'
You hope it all will turn out right
Oh
Gee, thanks
It's been nice
We'll keep in touch
I'll be alright
I get to sleep late
for a while
It was nothing personal
and I won't take it wrong
but I wish I didn't have to take it
at all
