Hi - been thinking about what you said in reference to your nephew in Iraq!! Did he not volunteer to go into the service since there is no draft in this country - if he was so against the Iraqi war, why in the world did he join??????

Feeling better today and plan to go out……[your other nephew] has your sister's van in order to get to and from school where he is working backstage on an upcoming show, Damn Yankees!!

Must go - slept in this morning and running slow!!

Love ya,. Mom

Damn Yankees! I remember when New Canaan High put that one on. I've always loved "Whatever Lola Wants" and the devil's song that Ray Marston sang. There is also a very beautiful love song that the husband sings to his wife...that's all I can remember. It's nice to see [my nephew] is working like [my sister] did, on production behind the scenes. If he's truly serious about being in the film industry someday, every bit helps.

Yes, [my other nephew] went voluntarily into the Army after he realized that a high school drop-out has little chance of becoming a fireman or a cop, which are his two top career choices. He got his GED, but was told that military service would more than make up for his lack of further education. From what I've gathered, talking to him and his mom and his grandmother, stepfather and aunts and uncles --  [my other nephew] thought he'd be going to Iraq to win a war. He had no understanding of the term "occupation".

As I explained to [my sister] in our really long and nice phone conversation last week, I'm not against war, per se. I agree with Obama that we need to move our troops back to Afghanistan, where we were fighting a war before we decided to take down Saddam Hussein for false reasons and then occupy Iraq at a terrible cost, both financial and with soldiers' lives.

Weren't we supposed to be fighting Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda members after 9/11?

We've been in Iraq for five years now. McCain feels that we could be there another 10 at least. Look at what it's doing to our economy, our morale, our reputation overseas. Our troops. Sure, it's not Nam. But in 8 years, don't you think it could be?

Meanwhile, back in China:

Some things just don't ever end, do they?
