Where is Al Franken when we need him?
All I keep on hearing out of democratic senators is we need '60 votes to pass this' and 'we need 60 votes to pass that'. But I wonder what the story would be when Al Franken is finally seated? What would be the claimed obstacle to passing health care and climate change reforms then?
I am sick of the 'it has to be bi-partisan to be passed' dodge coming from the Democrats in the US Senate. These are very crucial times in terms of potential long needed reforms being enacted. Why aren't Harry Reid and the Democrats pushing harder to get Franken seated? First, and most importantly, the State of Minnesota is not being properly represented, but secondly, decisions that will affect the future of the American people for decades to come are being decided right now and the dems are ceding their strategic/numeric advantage by not having Franken there in the Senate.

I think the Dems would be very happy for the most part if Franken isn't seated during this session of congress for the sole reason that it gives them cover, esp on the healthcare "debate".

I am leaning toward your thinking on this miguel. I think it is inevitable that he will be seated and that cover will be gone...now I am having my doubts that it'll even be in time for the Sotomayor confirmation.
I sense no urgency out of the dems in the Senate, it is almost the 4th of July for crying out loud, to want to push their numeric advantage...an advantage that represents a mandate for change given by the American people. I think they view Al Franken being seated as a headache. I hate to say it but those are the vibes I am getting. At any other time I figured they'd be screaming about this.

Hang on. supposed to come this week--that is a decision, finally.
The Supreme Court (state) should order the Sec of State to do something and the Gov to do something THIS WEEK.
When they do this the bad guys can ask for an order stopping the effect of the decision and asking for leave to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
That will not be granted.
Then we have an order to CERTIFY THE ELECTION. And then Franken should be seated.
This is all Reid is waiting for.
The bad guys can proceed with their appeal, but Franken will be sitting and voting in the Senate. And If I know Al, he will cause trouble there--the good kind of trouble. ha!!
THE END

Nice plan...I hope it comes off that way dd. :)
Still begs the question what will the excuse(s) be by the D's for not passing stuff after he is seated.
