Nothing in particular...

Which isn't the same as randomness, lol.  I didn't have a specific topic to post about but felt like rambling a bit...

Easter was great.  Spent it with my tight Italian-American family, and seeing as my parents are getting a bit older (both will be 80 this year) I cherish these holidays more and more.

I am completely pumped to see this band on May 16th in New Jersey.  Right now they are probably my favorite band.

What a great group of people we have here.  Great topics, informed/provocative contributors, lively discussions and time enjoyably spent.  Even the posters I don't always agree with (MiddleClassBill, Lalo, et al) are decent people who I enjoy debating the issues with.

Buying out my partners (I own and operate a video store) right in the middle of tax season has been a nightmare.  But at least everything, the buy-out and my taxes, is close to being resolved.

Can't wait 'til the weather gets nice here in New England so I can get out to play some golf and do some hiking.

I love visiting NYC.  What a great city.  But with all due respect to Josh, destor and whomever else lives there...while I love it, it's not a place I could ever call home.

As I get older, not that I am that old...47 this year, I am discovering parts of me I never knew I had are hurting.

This year I really need to make a good effort to break a terrible addiction I have...nicotine.  The only drug I have ever regretted trying.  I should have become a chain pot smoker if I was gonna chain smoke anything.

I am so proud and happy to be living in these very interesting times.  Never in my life did I think, though I hoped it would happen, that a person of color would be elected President of the US.  Glad I was wrong and, to quote the late Jim Morrison, proud to be a part of this number.

Peace...

Aw, don't short change the city, Lib luv. It has its moments.

As for nicotine, well, don't we all wish we'd never picked that habit up? Legalize pot, I tell ye, and we will all stop driving and start just walking around aimlessly, as we were meant to do, heh heh.

Better than driving drunk, seeing as how when yer stoned you can only drive 30 mph before feeling paranoid about cops and speeding tickies, LOL.

Your family sounds awesome. YOU ARE awesome. And I hope to meet you soon.

Oh, and, no I never thought I'd live to see it either. But I sure spent money on this guy, and so far, the pay back is just about worth it.

user-pic

I love The City Lis...I really do and try to get there as much as I can. I just wouldn't be able to reside there full time. As the saying goes, it is a great place to visit but...

Hopefully I will be able to make it down there to meet you and Bwak and whomever else from TPM resides there. As soon as I can get more time out of my store that is...which finally looks like it might be happening soon.

:)

user-pic

I feel your pain in regard to those "parts of me I never knew I had are hurting". As a reformed, (part-time), smoker, I share this with you in hopes of reinforcing your commitment to kick the habit.

user-pic

Smoking is very bad...I know it...but just can't stop from reaching for another one in the pack Miguel. They're up to almost $7 a pack here...so maybe the economics will help me get serious about quitting. ;)

user-pic

And nice link too Miguel, lol.

user-pic

I don't have anything in particular to comment. Just...

user-pic

WOT?

WOT???

THE END
hahahahahahaha

(Sorry, Dickon)

user-pic

Where is that guy?

user-pic

Taking tango lessons in his bathrobe, from what I hear....but you didn't hear that from me, and I don't have a picture of him with a rose in his teeth.

Wink wink.

user-pic

Yikes! He hasn't been here today! Seriously, anyone heard from him? How many times have I told that boy to let us know where he's going...now I have to stay up and worry!

user-pic

LOL...hey Bwak. =D

One of the many animals that makes TPM like a Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Chickens, dogs, cats, pigs, bunnycats, ducks...and what is Rowan? A Manatee?

:)

user-pic

Yez

She's a Manatee.

What manner of beast is a Libertine?

user-pic

Ahhh, a manatee...I thought so.

What kind am I? Not sure Bwak. That is why I am space truckin' across the cyber-universe in search of Superjudge to help me try to puzzle it all out.

user-pic

hmmmmmmm, I'm thinkin' I wanna be an animal...

user-pic

Ah, luv, don't we all now and then...

user-pic

I think wolves are magnificent, albeit very misunderstood, animals stilli. Not saying it would fit you, just sayin'...

user-pic

I could be a wolf, I think...they ARE magnificent. Hey, wait... are you saying I'm not magnificent???

user-pic

Don't worry about the magnificent part, we can work around that...they are fierce, loyal, and protective of their pack for starters. I mean the other animal that sprung to mind was a beaver...which are cool animals too, just not as cool as wolves. ;)

user-pic

And of course I wasn't saying that...but it seems to have struck a nerve.

user-pic

Heeheehee...not really, just had to give you a hard time!

user-pic

LOL...well to be honest I misread your comment at first. Which is why I said we could work around the 'magnificent' part...which truth be told made no sense in terms of what you had written. And me not making sense at times is par for the course because I have this bad habit of getting into streams of consciousness and rambling and I go on and on and on and on then the next thing ya know I am so far away from the original subject people tend to ask themselves how the hell did we end up here and I don't even realize it as I am doing it because sometimes my brain just won't slow down and all of the thoughts just come pouring out of my head through my fingers and then onto the screen and...ummmm...sorry about that...I think I did it again.

:-P

Great Sunday post.

Hope store is huge success and you get to NY soon to meet up with Lis and bwak - but Caution! You may never go home again. They weave a spell I'm told and well...............

Happy Easter! (not Monday yet here!)

user-pic

Hahaha...well thanks for the words of caution Auntie, though in the end I tend not to be good at taking advice. Glad you liked the post and happy Easter to you also...no matter how little of it is left.

:)

user-pic

Libertine, you are right up our alley, which is just left of Diagonalley, and just west of the yellow brick road. That, in itself, makes you worth your weight in gold, and then some.

Good night, new found friend.

user-pic

We are in perfect harmony, my brother.

BTW, I did the New York thing for ten years. Nothing like it. Best place on the planet to work, fun to call home when you're young. But lousy if you're trying to raise a kid. Just how lousy? I moved to South Carolina.

We've been spending time on the Maine coast each summer with my folks, who are about the same age as yours. The trip's expensive and a hassle, but I savor every moment.

Down here you can play golf every week of the year, but I don't find nearly enough chances to play. My buddies thank me for it.

I'll stand behind anybody who can rock a good Jim Morrison quote. So I'll close with one that seems appropriate: out here in the perimeter we is stoned. Immaculate.

Peace, friend, on this beautiful day. Best wishes for many more to come.

user-pic

NYC to SC? Now that had to have been one hell of a culture shock bluemeanie!!

I was a bit cool to playing golf for a while too. The last couple years I got some swing issues worked out (mainly with my Driver) and I really never hit the ball any better than I did last year...plus I got some putting issues worked out too, so safe to say the bug has bit me again, lol. Golf can be almost as addicting as nicotine at least on a psychological level.

Ahhhhh...another fan of The Lizard King? Nice...and the monk bought lunch, yeah he bought a little. This is the trip, the best part...

user-pic

What a nice post Libertine. I think it must be the Red Sox Nation thing that keeps you from residing in our fine city. :) I've worked here since the mid-80s, and other than a long stint in Queens back then, I never lived in the city until I moved into Manhattan in 2004, and I have to say I love it and don't miss the commute. Now, if I didn't work here that would be different perhaps, but maybe not. It is important for me to get out of here, and regularly, and hang out in Red Sox Nation woods. That's reviving (so long as I don't talk baseball with my father-in-law).

As to smoking, I stopped, and at your age. You can and should do it. Don't mean to sound like the ex-smoker that I am, but I am one, so just really stop, and get ready to enjoy that big loving family of yours for many, many years to come. As to chain-pot smoking I plead the fifth. :)

Lots of luck with your business Libertine, and I hope to join you also if we ever do have another TPM reunion down here in these parts. I think LisB should set it up. (Hint hee)

Cheers.

Bruce

user-pic

I think so too, Bruce.

=D

BARBEQUE AT LISBs!!!!!!!

user-pic

Um, not chicken, tho.

No, not chicken.

user-pic

Well I really do love The City Bruce...it is the greatest city on this planet imho. The Red Sox thing could be problematic though...for my well being, lol. But for the record I could never live in Boston (aka 'The Hub of the Universe') either...if for no other reason than being around people so full of themselves that they would give their city that nickname. Besides that being a former Hartford Whalers hockey fan I hate the Boston Bruins with every fiber of my being. Kinda like the way the Rangers and Islanders fans hate each other. ;)

Count me in for the next get together...and hopefully by then I would have kicked the habit.

user-pic

Best of luck with that business Libertine, and have a good trip!!

user-pic

Thanks Obey...in this economy I need all the luck I can get with my business.

As far as the trip goes, thanks. I used to work for an outfit out of NJ while living up here in the Hartford area. Once a week, every Monday, I would have to drive down to central Jersey and drive back the same day. The club where the concert is taking place is exactly on that same route...so I am VERY familiar with the drive. I-84W to I-684 to the Cross County Pkwy to the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Garden State Parkway South get off at the exit for Route 9 South...15 years later I still remember it well.

user-pic

Libertine, I'm trying to use those lozenges to break the habit - sucking on one right now.

But then I can't seem to break the lozenge habit, and they're expensive.

The brand I have right now is named "Commit." I've got to tell you, every time I read the brand name, a little voice in my head whispers "suicide". What Madison Ave. genius thought that one up?

user-pic

Ha! It was probably a single female who thought that one up. The women’s version of the lozenges (created by a male ad-man) would be “Give it Up!”

user-pic

What?

user-pic

No offense. I meant it as a joke on advertising (anti-smoking branding) and the different perspectives, but I guess it was a little crude.

user-pic

(Lashes Don Key with wet noodle)

Maybe an old married woman would call it commit. Not a young chick. They'd be as likely to name it 'Give it Up' as any possum.

Even not so young. Having been in a commitment all I do is c-r-i-n-g-e at the thought.

=D

user-pic

True, but I still think Mad Ave. would. (I was about to say, "chicks are for kids" but I don't know if you (or I) can take another ((thunk)).

The only cigs I can remember specifically targeting women was Virginia Slims, with the implication that a girl could stay thin by chain-smoking those coffin nails (I guess chemo was considered a great weight-loss program to Philip Morris).

user-pic

Marlboro was originally targeted for women, Don Key. It failed, so they substituted cowboys.

user-pic

I thought you were kidding at first, NB. Marlboro Man has to be one of the more successful ad campaigns ever. I remember a pic of a tombstone spray-painted with "Marlboro Country" when I was a kid (early tagging?).

user-pic

PS Nice tune. Saw them with the Butthole Surfers who, after the second or third idiot threw a bottle hitting one of them, left the stage with, "Screw you; we already got your money."

user-pic

Heh, Got Pepper?

They're locals for you, aren't they. Cool Band.

user-pic

Kinda, on a ranch somewhere in the hill country I think. They don't seem to come out to play much anymore.

user-pic

HAHAHAHA...you and Bwak a couple fellow Butthole Surfers fans? I think Electric Larryland and Independent Worm Saloon are their best albums. Also loved Gibby's cameo with Ministry on the song and video for "Jesus Built My Hotrod"...

They just got through with a short tour...first one in a while...and I missed them. :(

user-pic

I like Electric Larryland (Pepper, not so much, but second thoughts seeing that video; maybe it reminded me too much of that Jim Carrol song). That was the only time I saw them. I might have heard them at an anti-RNC thing in Dallas in '84. I know I heard some of the Dead Kennedys set (I was a few blocks away at a different kind of rally because I had my then young son with me). I've heard that the DKs were originally going to play with the Assassins. I don't think Dallas was quite ready for that.

user-pic

I've tried cutting down and that is usually a disaster...I can for a while then when I fall off the wagon it seems like I smoke even more than before. I need to go cold turkey...

LOL...so you ended up with a lozenge problem? Commit, huh? A name for a lozenge? What the heck...even with that name you're buying 'em. Must be some good sh-t, lol.

user-pic

Yep. Peppermint flavor. When I OD on them I get the hiccups. That's a lot of fun.

They should be named something demeaning like "Sucker Sucks" or "Weak-Willed Wondercups." The instructions would be "flog the horse."
