Happy Trails...

I just found out this morning that my sister and brother-in-law had to put down their Siberian Husky named Casey last night.  I was there the first day Casey became part of our family when she was a puppy.  She was crazy as a loon, happy-go-lucky and spoiled bitch, who never failed to bring the love and the smiles...she was an important member of our very close immediate family, who will be sorely missed, and who always couldn't wait to see her 'Uncle John'.

If there is a doggy heaven I hope she is getting all the tummy rubs and Frosty Paws she could ever want...

:( :( :( :(

What can I say? My condolences to you and your sister/bro-in-law. That's the easy part. My heart has been broken by more than one canine who failed to live as long as homo sapiens, (me). It's their one flaw, as I see it. We just live longer than they do. What beauties they are though. How can you not give yourself to those canine [what?]. Sweethearts? Bad boyz/girlz? friends? If you haven't told a dog how much you love/like/adore him/her you really are missing something. The one saving grace is you are assured 'secret smiles' ad infinitum as you remember that special hound in the years to come.

L,
I wish you and yours peace. I firmly believe that there is a heaven for all of us animals.

The loss of a pet is the loss of truly Unconditional love, and it hurts.

I have had to put down dogs, cats, and ferrets and the loss still hits me when I think about my friends. Those that deny that animals have personalities are only robbing themselves of great friends and good times, especially if you happened to rescue your buddy(s).

My dogs viewed me as a member of the pack, but my cats always viewed me as staff.

The ferrets were great fun, they were litter trained and had the run of the house. They squeaked and chirped when I got home and danced until they were picked up.

(Hope that all makes sense lots of pain today leading to heavy prescription drug use).

Again, peace to you and yours.

Sorry, Lib. Good thoughts at you and yours.

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Flower, what a delightful poem. Just delightful.

Yezzzz...I only wish I was the author. ;o)

user-pic

Oh but Flower, the best that I can do 99% of the time is to at least recognize a nice piece, a pretty prose, a beautiful poem. And that aint nothin.

All dogs go to heaven. Some shouldn't, but they all do,as they should. Irish logic. Thoughts are with the family. Happy Tails!

I'll try, TheraP. There are some wonderful bloggers here. I just need to seek them out and avoid those I am finding toxic. I can be a lovable smartass when I try.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody. :)

It was very tough on my sister and her husband, far tougher on them than me...who decided to be with her as she was being put under. They found out she had cancer and probably was suffering. I to this day remember being there, just like my sister and her husband were this time, as another long time pet was put down...it was one of the worst days of my life. I know they are not people but dogs can develop very distinctive personalities and become like part of the family.

But on a happier note they have already picked up a new puppy. A rescue animal they drove from CT to NJ to pick-up. A Shepard puppy named Bella...and being Italian that says 'beautiful' to me. 8-)
