"Liberal Bloggers Accuse Obama Of Trying To Win Election" The Borowitz Report

http://borowitzreport.com/archive_rpt.asp?rec=6894&srch=

Excerpt:
The liberal blogosphere was aflame today with new accusations that Sen.
Barack Obama (D-Ill) is trying to win the 2008 presidential election.

Suspicions
about Sen. Obama's true motives have been building over the past few
weeks, but not until today have the bloggers called him out for
betraying the Democratic Party's losing tradition.

"Barack Obama
seems to be making a very calculated attempt to win over 270 electoral
votes," wrote liberal blogger Carol Foyler at LibDemWatch.com, a blog
read by a half-dozen other liberal bloggers. "He must be stopped."

But the senator's position is not only correct on the merits from a
pro-civil liberties and pro-privacy rights perspective. It also
provided the senator an important chance to demonstrate his "Sister
Souljah moment.

The compromise bill was essentially crafted by leading liberals in
the House who see no inconsistency between civil liberties and privacy
rights and protecting America from another 9/11 attack.

The compromise bill would provide strict supervision by the special FISA Court of all intelligence agency anti-terrorist surveillance activities, with strict time limits on renewal of court orders. It would require written findings and accountability by the Justice Department and individual warrants and court orders if any U.S. citizen is involved, directly or indirectly, in the surveillance. And importantly, it expands congressional oversight of the program, including the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, as well as the Intelligence Committees in both chambers.

(CNN) – John Edwards said Tuesday that if he were
asked to accept the vice presidential slot or a cabinet position in a
potential Barack Obama administration, he would “seriously consider”
whatever the Illinois senator asked him to do.

It has been widely reported that the former North Carolina senator is on Obama’s vice presidential shortlist. On Tuesday, NPR interviewer Guy Raz called the former Democratic presidential candidate’s presence on the list an “open secret,”

Obama's Search Team Begins To Vet

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/07/obamas_team_begins_to_vet.php

Excerpt from the article:

Barack Obama's vice presidential selection team has begun to ask
potential candidates for information and documents, a signal that the
formal vetting phase of the search process has begun.

Last week, members of the team gave Sen. James Webb of VA a list of what they needed to begin their investigation of his background and career. Webb refused, telling them that he did not want to be considered for the position.

In a statement today, Webb disclosed that he had "communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President."

A Democrat close to Webb confirms that a request for documents preceded his declaration to the Obama campaign. The Democrat said that Webb did not want to relive the vigors of a campaign so soon after his election to the Senate.

Webb's statement suggests that Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder, the two leaders of the team, had received instructions from Sen. Obama to vet a number of finalists, including Webb.

John McCain Explains How War Is A Great Way To Pay Off Our Huge National Debt.

John McCain unveils the real reason why America has accumulated such an enormous national debt.

Republican Eisenhower settled for less than winning in the Korean war, so of course he could not then pay down the national debt.

Republican Ford cut and ran from the Vietnam war, so of course he could not then pay down then national debt.

Republican Bush One settled for less than complete Victory in Gulf War One, so of course he could not then pay down the national debt.

John McCain is onto something: Our huge national debt was created by three Republican Presidents failing to fight on until they won their wars, and could not then apply any peace dividends toward elimination off the national debt.

Fear not; all is not yet lost. Applying the McCain War Logic, all we have to do is start up four or five brand new major wars, and not quit  until we have achieved complete victories, and we then will end up with huge revenue surpluses.

Brilliant! Hand that McCain genius a Guinness. Brilliant!

After finding out about the will bowers/ Harriet christian video,
the Murphy Darragh/McCain support, and PUMAs call for party unity

Seems like there is some OTHER fishy business. While pumpac.org was registered in California (yet the blogger “murphy” is in MA), PUMAPAC.COM was registered in a VERY red state on the very same day that PUMAPAC.org became an actual PAC. courtesy of GoDaddy:

European Court of Human Rights rules: THE British government illegally and secretly monitored every telephone, fax and email to and from the UK and Ireland for seven years.

Perhaps Bush/Cheney got the FISA skirting idea from Tony Blair. The Brits were doing this long before 9/11. Are we sure that the US Government wasn't also doing the same thing?

Britain rebuked for spying on us for seven years

By Dearbhail McDonald Legal Editor

Wednesday July 02 2008

THE
British government illegally and secretly monitored every telephone,
fax and email to and from the UK and Ireland for seven years.

Laws surrounding mass covert surveillance, which the British government
insisted were necessary to combat a growing threat from terrorism, were
yesterday found to have violated privacy laws.

In a landmark ruling which could have significant implications for a similar
case under way in the Irish High Court, the European Court of Human Rights
ruled that the British government's scheme of external surveillance was not "in
accordance with the law".

It did not provide adequate protection against abuse of power and conferred
wide discretion to intercept and examine external communications.

The case was taken to the Strasbourg court by the Irish Council for Civil
Liberties and two UK-based human rights agencies, Liberty and British-Irish
Rights Watch, who claimed their privacy was breached by the alleged data "fishing
expeditions".

The Michelle Obama Makeover Myth

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002904730

Excerpted from the article.

Last week’s New York Times story that Michelle Obama is undergoing efforts to soften her image set the political world abuzz.

Television
pundits, newspaper columnists and bloggers on both sides of the
political divide took the story and ran. A promo for MSNBC’s “Hardball
with Chris Matthews” declared, “She’s Barack’s greatest asset. But
after tough criticism, is it time for Michelle Obama 2.0?”

But there really is no “New Michelle.” A CQ
Politics comparison of Mrs. Obama’s public events of the last week with
her speeches and appearances during the Democratic primary reveal that
the so-called Michelle Makeover is more myth than reality. While she
may have made small tweaks in tone and style, for the most part her
words have not changed.

In other words; it was all made up, and just another huge dose of Media Bullshit.

WHEN IT CAME TO NATIONAL SECURITY, REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETE FUCK UPS. SEE FOR YOURSELVES.

  • Democratic Presidents forced Germany into unconditional surrender twice, and the Japanese Empire also to surrender unconditionally.

  •  What is the war record of Republican Presidents. Take a look.

Korea: Republican President Eisenhower settled for a stalemate that has kept our troops pinned down there for the past fifty years.

Vietnam: Republican President Ford fled from the roof tops in a complete "Cut And Run".

Beirut: Republican President Reagan got hundreds of marines blown to smithereens, and then "Cut and Ran" all the way to Grenada, where he staged a wag the dog distraction from his complete surrender to the terrorists in Beirut. Don't hold your breath until there is a huge demand for a war monument to celebrate the Republicans great victory in Grenada, the toy poodle that Reagan claimed had roared.

Republican President Reagan traded arms for hostages with the Iranian Ayatollahs, and lied to the American People about having done so.

I know; some of you are going to mention Blackhawk down. Take a look at who actually send in the Troops to Somalia. Bush One, and he did so after he had already lost his bid for a second term.

Republican President George Herbert Walker Bush, had his ambassador, April Glasby, tell Saddam Hussein that America had no vital interest in Kuwait, as Iraq had it's forces massed for invasion on the Kuwait border. She is on video actually giving Saddam the green light to attack Kuwait. What else does saying "America has no vital interests" mean.

Then, after Margret Thatcher had to give Bush a spinal transplant, and tell him: "George this is not the time for you to go all wobbly over Iraq's aggression", he did something about it. Of course he then talked the Shiites into rebelling, promising them their liberation, and instead stood by, and allowed Saddam to slaughter those that he had urged to rebel. He then left Saddam in power to continue to persecute and slaughter his own people.

Well, you know the final chapter with Republican President George W. Bush, who took a bad situation in Iraq, and made it a hundred times worse, and managed to allow a ragtag bunch of religious fanatics to make the world's greatest military power look powerless and impotent. Of course Bush also did what Iran hoped he would do, and actually created the conditions that let Iran emerge as the strongest power in the region

Now we have Republican John McCain promising to continue in the same wrongheaded manner.

  • Any one who thinks, with the long history of Republican Presidents getting our nation's military humiliated, that the Republicans are actually strong on National Defense has to be a complete Moron.

VIDEO OF THE MEDIA TRYING TO DETERMINE HOW TO COVER WHAT McCAIN CALLED CINDY

Very funny satire. Warning it uses adult language, so if words frighten and offend you, because they match up with the dirty meanings you have already stored in your dirty mind vault, then you should not watch the video. On the other hand, if you are not afraid of words,  give it a look. You will enjoy it, and have a good laugh.

Campaigning rockers Bono
and Bob Geldof
challenged French
President Nicolas Sarkozy
yesterday to increase aid to Africa,
saying France was failing to
live up to commitments it made at a G8
summit in 2005.

The U2 frontman and the former Boomtown

singer, who played an active role in the Live 8 concerts in support
of aid and debt relief ahead of the summit, said failure by G8 leaders to
keep their promises to the world's poorest was "a disgrace".

General who probed Abu Ghraib says Bush officials committed war crimes

last updated: June 18, 2008 08:34:09 PM

WASHINGTON — The Army general who led the investigation into prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison accused the Bush administration Wednesday of committing "war crimes" and called for those responsible to be held to account.

The remarks by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, who's now retired, came in a new report that found that U.S. personnel tortured and abused detainees in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, using beatings, electrical shocks, sexual humiliation and other cruel practices.

"After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes," Taguba wrote. "The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account."

GARDEZ, Afghanistan — Mohammed Naim Farouq
was a thug in the lawless Zormat district of eastern Afghanistan. He
ran a kidnapping and extortion racket, and he controlled his turf with
a band of gunmen who rode around in trucks with AK-47 rifles.

U.S.
troops detained him in 2002, although he had no clear ties to the
Taliban or al Qaida. By the time Farouq was released from Guantanamo
the next year, however — after more than 12 months of what he described
as abuse and humiliation at the hands of American soldiers — he'd made
connections to high-level militants.

In fact, he'd become
a Taliban leader. When the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency released a
stack of 20 "most wanted" playing cards in 2006 identifying militants
in Afghanistan and Pakistan — with Osama bin Laden at the top — Farouq
was 16 cards into the deck.

A McClatchy investigation
found that instead of confining terrorists, Guantanamo often produced
more of them by rounding up common criminals, conscripts, low-level
foot soldiers and men with no allegiance to radical Islam — thus
inspiring a deep hatred of the United States in them — and then housing
them in cells next to radical Islamists.
