Republicans don't trust Americans.

Republicans don't trust us Americans to make the right decision if we are given the option to choose to spend our money on a public health insurance option Vs private insurance.  They claim that if given the choice the American people will choose the public option and this will lead to all sorts of evil such as rationing of health care and bureaucrats making life and death decisions.

This from the party who in regards to corporate & financial regulation and taxes on the rich and powerful, has said, "We trust the American people" to make the best decisions of what to do with their money.  I suppose, in reality, the Republicans only trust the corporations, rich and powerful to make good decisions (such as tanking our economy).  But when it comes to individual choice the Republicans just don't trust us Americans.

To all the Republicans out there I ask that you trust American individuals to make the right decision if given the public insurance option.  What's the worst that could happen?  We choose public insurance and it doesn't work out, then we have to change our minds and buy back into private insurance.  What's the best that could happen?  We each save thousands a year on our health insurance.

A few months ago republicans were telling me the public option was a bad idea because government agencies are so inefficient, and the private sector can do it better.

Now they say the more efficient private insurance companies can't be expected to compete with a public healthcare option.

Which is it?

"choose the public option and this will lead to all sorts of evil such as rationing of health care and bureaucrats making life and death decisions. "

Health care is currently rationed in part by price. Will the public option have the exact same rationing, or will some other means of rationing a scarce and costly resource be needed?

If private insurance is currently so inefficient/profitable, why isn't there competition forcing the consumer costs down by improving efficiencies or eating into profit margins?

Great argument!

Let's take it from bad to worse!! Hooha

What, or which, argument did I present for you to twist up your panties that way in response?

Really?

Last time I checked, what Republicans are ACTUALLY saying is that the public option is going to deliberately and purposfully undercut any private option, because it's a subsidized option. And that's why the public will eventually go for it.

It's not "given the choice". It's actually "having no choice".

All for $1 trillion debt plan that still leaves millions uninsured....

Unfortunately, neither Republicans or Democrats trust Americans. We are not allowed to debate single-payer. The public option is as much a distraction as anything else. The Blue Dogs will kill it and while we have our eyes on the public option they'll just cram the bill so full of poison pills that I fear Lalo will be correct - millions uninsured and the Democratic Party will get the blame and the Democratic Party will deserve it.

You think the Demo Part wants the blame?

Why can't we debate single-payer??
