Fox guarding the henhouse

In a story which sounds like it could have been written for The Onion, Koffi Annan has announced that Syria will be deploying an army battalion along its border with Lebanon to prevent arms smuggling into Lebanon.

Hoping Israel can be defeated

http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/hoping_israel_can_be_defeated_opedcolumnists_uriel_heilman.htm

Excerpt:

Moderation may be giving way to the hope that the clock in the Middle East can be turned back not just to 1967 - before Israel controlled the Golan Heights and West Bank - but to 1948, when Israel did not exist.

"The Arabs want the 1967 border for the moment - listen to me: for the moment," said Abdel Mahdi Al- Soudi, a sociology professor at the University of Jordan. "This will change." The Arabs may sign peace treaties, Al-Soudi said, but "nobody will sign on to end the conflict. Nobody will sign something saying Israel will be Israel forever."

......................................

It should be quite obvious, even to leftists that Israeli land concessions and negotiations will NEVER lead to peace, but in fact are seen as a weakness on the part of Israel that only further encourages arabs to wage war in the hope it can defeat Israel. The only possible hope for peace is for Israel to deliver a crushing military defeat to its enemies as was done in '67. The only reason Egypt and Jordan made peace treaties with Israel is the fact that it knew there was no possible way to defeat it militarily, as the arabs themselves admit. That is why the ceasefire with hezbollah is such a disaster and will lead to another war.

About those "innocent" Lebanese civilians

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/757743.html

This haaretz article exposes the fact that hezbollah paid farmers to set up Katyusha rockets in their orchards. Not only that, but these farmers also actively engaged in launching the rockets themselves per instructions given to them on their cell phones about the number of rockets to launch and in what direction and range. Given this information, it will be perfectly legitimate for the Israelis to target these orchards the next time. Since these "civilians" have chosen to actively engage in combat operations, they are fair game. However that won't prevent the leftist useful idiots in the west from accusatory screaming about "war crimes" on the part of the Israelis.
