Immaturity: Lieberman's 'I'll Take My Marbles And Caucus With The Republicans' Threat

Senator Lieberman has behaved outrageously during this election.

I don't find fault with him endorsing his friend Senator McCain although it does expose his values and priorities.  He was already doing a poor job as committee chair.  I support him caucusing with the democrats but I think he should not be the chair or in postion to 'become chair' of any major committee.  We have many very qualified, ethical senators that are worthy of chairing a committee. The senate needs to appoint leadership for committees NOT just based on seniority but based on who is the best person to chair the committee in support of the work of the senate.

One of the most compelling reasons to remove him from the chairmanship position is his very childish expression that he would caucus with the republicans if he was stripped of his chairmanship.  In his attempts to be manipulative he reveals immaturity and lack of wisdom.

Is he six years old??  That's like saying I won't be true to myself or the people I serve if I don't get what I want... why don't you just hold your breath or something....?

I understand that Senator Obama wants to see Senator Lieberman continue to caucus with the democrats... however, that's up to Senator Lieberman.  If he would be so childish as to caucus with republicans even though he sincerely disagrees with them on most issues, then he would be behaving in an irresponsible fashion for the sake of ego and power.  This demonstration of poor character does not recommend him as a senate leader.

Actions come with consequences.  Lieberman's actions during this election demonstrated poor judgment and his silence and participation during the week's of sleaze demonstrate poor character.

I hope for everyone's sake including the people of Connecticut that the democratic congress finds a way to keep him in the caucus without his chairmanship and shifts things around so that he would not necessarily 'inherit a chairmanship due to others leaving or stepping down.  He has the power to redeem himself and demonstrate better character traits and things could change in the future but right now he needs to experience some consequences for his actions.
