if racial equality were still at the fronteer of civil rights struggles, and warren, his church and some 51% or more of this country were openly opposed to extending civil rights to racial minorities, then yes, warren would be invited to deliver the invocation.

warren has been invited to deliver the invocation because among anti-gay evangelicals who enjoy a wide--WIDE--following, he is perhaps the most palatable. but make no mistake about it: waren will be there on 1-20-09 not in spite of his misguided beliefs about gays and lesbians, but because of them.

when president johnson signed the the civil rights act of 1964 he reportedly told an aid "we just lost the south fo a generation." i'm all fo that legislation, natuarly. but right now we're not there yet regrding gay and lesbian protections. and i hope when we get there, and we will, we will, more hearts and minds are won over ahead of time. to do that people have got to stop vilifying and start communicating.

i'm glad warren will be there on 1-20-09. i don't agree with him on much. i'd like to give him a piece of my mind. but gee wiz folks, why should i expect him to listen to anything i'd have to say if i wasn't willing to to listen to him.

for what it's worth, i had some tech. dif. with the post. as i was about to begin i hit something and the title posted. i couldn't for the life of me figure out how to edit it. moving on.

presumption of innocence runs deeper than simply how a jury approaches their task. journalists, for example, stick to the principle. the idea that everyone gets their day in court is a big deal.

that said, i did call him an asshole. i read some of the transcripts and the guy seems as crooked as a dog's leg. that's my opinion, which i'm entitled, yada yada. the trouble comes when the pile on makes it harder for the innocent to defend themselves. it happens.

there are no old days, just these days. welcome to human life on earth. what is happening is what has always happened and what will continue as long as we fail to share our limited resources: 1--there shall be those with more than they need and those with less. 2--shares will shift with regularity as a result of force, cunning, chance, smarts, guts and will among others.

the titanic is an interesting analogy. on those occasions when the iceburg is hit and the ship goes under refer to 2 above to obtain your space in a life boat. keep in mind that the richest man alive at the time went down with the ship.
