Because it's not every day you hear anything about charred monkeys.

So I was on the Customs and Border Protection website today, trying to discern just how illegal it would be to bring some lovely raw-milk sheep cheeses or a few lengths of the peppery local pork sausage home for the holidays.

The answer is, not as illegal as this.

I would eat basically anything. But I don't think I would eat that.

Oh, joy - Christmas, and the scent of charred monkey is in the air!

And he . . . HE HIMSELF . . . The Grinch carved the charred monkey!

Now why do I have a feeling Des is gonna show up and wreak holy hell about this?

Years ago, before Americans knew the value of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, we were returning from Spain. My mother-in-law had given me a huge plastic container of said olive oil - maybe 5 litres worth. As we were going through customs, the agent took one look at this huge plastic container full of greenish stuff and said, "What's that?" He took my word it was olive oil. It was long before 9/11.

Now you can buy it in all the stores...

(not as good as monkey story though)

Are you suggesting that we may one day be able to buy charred monkey in all the stores?

Genghis, that's a very astute reading between the lines! However,..... if so, it was an unconscious prediction.

Happily, I tend to be very poor at predictions. So I suspect not.

Peanut oil is better than olive oil for charring monkeys.

Would you like fries with your McMonkey?
