STOP KNOCKING ON MY DOOR!

This is an announcement to all the well-meaning, but block-headed volunteers who have given so unselfishly of their time to knock on doors and browbeat the inhabitants therein with their agenda:  Kindly stop ringing the bell; it gives me a headache.

Furthermore, in the future, it would be wise to send out literate volunteers.  The ones who show up on the porch have had trouble reading the No Soliciting or Proselytizing placard.

It's punishment enough that the Baptists and Jehovah Witnesses ring the bell.  Must I be forced to listen to the earnest entreaties of campaign volunteers determined to save my soul from Republican damnation?  I know McCain is an idiot; there's no need to remind me.

I was out canvassing today, in the city, and I honestly didn't have the heart to knock on doors that have already been knocked dry -- I rang the bell on the first couple houses but quit after that and just dropped the lit and talked to the people on the street. I look like such a suburban McCain type, so it gives me a thrill to walk straight up to someone and watch their expression change when they see my Obama button. I love the city!

We are persistent because the future of this country is at stake. No soliciting means nothing to me - that is for the Amway sales people - and I am extremely literate.

If you do not want to be bothered, put out an Obama sign. I do not stop at homes with Obama yard signs because they are intelligent enough to understand the urgency of NOW !

However, I think it should be noted, that there are people on the other end of the attitude spectrum who have thanked me for taking my own time to register new voters, to talk about issues, and to get them to the polls to vote.

The future of the country IS at stake, but it will not be steered to safety by over-zealous doorbell ringers who disregard the wishes of the homeowner. Not every home without political endorsement signs contains unregistered voters. Most of them house thoughtful people who are appalled by the stupifying lack of vision and personal accountability evinced by both candidates.

This is not an issue of Democrat vs. Republican; the lines that divide them are superficial at best. This is the collective disgust of a two-party system that has colluded to derail the management of the country for personal gain.

Yes ok I agree, but, if people were following politics in 2000 and voted for Nader, fine... but if people are still following politics in 2008, and still voting for Nader, I say to them that they are as self-serving and foolish as the ridiculous Nader candidacies they are voting for. Nader's legacy as a consumer advocate is at risk of being shadowed by his political selfishness, if it hasn't been already.

You're right, of course. Change rarely occurs from the top. (Mr. O, please take note) If Americans want to see a multi-party system, they'll have to start small, sending representatives first to the state legislatures and then to Capitol Hill.

Most front doors have this little peep hole thingy. Simply be nice and quiet, sneak up to the little hole and peek through. If you don't recognize them, you wait a couple minutes and they will go away.

Alternatively: put an Obama sign in your front window.
