Pelosi does not take over for Biden. Pelosi takes over for Obama if both he and Biden are unavailable to serve...if Biden didn't have time to name a new VP, after taking over for Obama.

I'm not so sure it was a typo. Franken actually tried to check the cite for the statistics. On another discussion board a labor law lawyer said that arbitration goes in favor of the employer about 90% of the time, and judges/jurys only about 50%. This is completely at odds with the claims of the witness Franken was questioning.

I've had a change in heart over the hate crime thing in the last couple of years.

Mostly I have come to understand that the point of hate crime laws is that they are anti-terrorism laws. The black teens didn't commit the crime to "send a message" and keep blacks out of their neighborhood.

The TX boys got the maximum punishment, but the goals of sentencing are threefold:

-Punish the criminal.
-Protect Society.
-Make an example the deters other would-be criminals.

So even though they got the maximum possible punishment, The fact that it wasn't prosecuted as a hate crime means that no message was sent that it isn't OK with society to kill someone just because you hate blacks.

Living at high altitude, I was seldom able to plan far enough in advance to make dried beans, as the cooking times need to increase by 30-50% vis. sea level. A crock pot was useful, but pinto beans still wouldn't be done over a work day. The pressure cooker has been a god send though. Pintos can go from dry to plate in about an hour.
