Personally, I think Lieberman is the biggest piece of shit in Washington, and I hope they strip him of his chair AND send him crying to the GOP. But I also don't think it hurts Obama to be seen as being above that sort of thing.

I do agree that allowing him to keep the Oversight chair will result in the kind of sanctimonious grandstanding we haven't seen since Bill Clinton's wang was threatening to crack the foundation of democracy.

Good. That means she's probably going to walk on at the end of a skit, which means there's a better chance that they're going to keep pummeling her. I seriously want to see a pitchforks and torches type of thing, where Tina Fey is just whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Let Palin walk on and put her stamp of approval on that. My only fear is that Jim Downey, the guy who writes the political sketches, is pretty conservative, though I do think he likes Obama. Plus he was the head writer for Letterman, so he definitely knows that the standard was set on Thursday night.

I doubt McCain would have come on Letterman if he'd known that he was going to get destroyed, either. I imagine they told him, "Dave is still angry, so we don't what he's going to ask you," and McCain -- incorrectly -- assumed that Letterman would hit him a little bit at first, and then let up because Dave wouldn't want it to get awkward.

SNL doesn't finalize anything until after the initial run-through tonight, so they could have accurately told Palin, "We don't know what the skit will be, but it'll be something similar to what we've done before." After that, everything is on her. If she wants to walk at the last minute, let her do it.

On the other hand, if SNL does give in and get friendly with her, it completely takes the edge off everything they've done before, and further proves how far they've fallen since the original cast. That's why it was so important that Letterman never let up -- it proved that he meant what he said.

After the way Letterman absolutely hammered McCain on Thursday, SNL better not go chickenshit on us and give Palin some cute little cameo with Tina Fey, a'la Hillary and Amy Poehler. If they do another skit where they absolutely pummel her, and then Palin comes out at the end and waves, fine; but if they do her the favor of providing a nice, friendly clip for all the Sunday and Monday shows to run, I'm going to be pissed.

This is awesome. We can take Virginia. I'm not certain, but I think McCain has all but abandoned Northern VA. I guess it makes sense, that he would try to mobilize the southern half of the state, but it's surprising nonetheless.

I live pretty close to DC, in Maryland, and get all of the DC/Northern VA channels. For at least the past two weeks, I've seen nothing but Obama ads-- it's been Barack TV. Tonight during a Seinfeld rerun, for instance, I saw the ad attacking McCain's healthcare plan during one break, and the biography spot during another. Over the summer, on the other hand, any time I'd see an Obama ad, I'd see the "Celebrity" ad soon after, and vice-versa.
