The "two campaigns"
This phrase from a NYT column (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/us/politics/06mccain.html) describes not the McCain and the Obama campaigns, but the McCain and the Palin campaigns. It's very telling, exposing the deep divisions within the Republican Party and why we can look forward optimistically to Democratic leadership for the future.
We had the Obama/Biden campaign. They had the McCain campaign and the Palin campaign. Moderate Republicans like Sen. Smith and Rep. Shays lost, leaving what may well be a rump Republican Party, as Paul Krugman has said. This rump is still fighting the culture wars, while we try to fix things.
Let's go change the world.
