Why I'm a Democrat:

I believe in helping my fellow man.

I believe that after a life time of paying into the tax system, that I deserve to be paid back when I am no longer young enough to work.

I'm happy to pay taxes to pay for better roads, better schools, more police and health care for those who cannot afford to buy their own.

I believe we should help our seniors more.  This is a particular "want" of mine, since I take care of my dad full time, and due to the Bush economic policies, I now have no way of getting my dad to his doctor, due to MedRide being canceled due to budget cuts.  Paratransit is no longer taking new riders either, due to the same thing.  Now, the only way my 84 year old handicapped father will get medical help is when he's ill enough to have to go to the hospital via an ambulance, that will now cost us $175.

I believe our returning Vets deserve the best medical care and benefits.  To me, they are more important than any politician could ever be.  John McCain doesn't count here.  He's loaded.  These Vets returning from the wars are not.

I believe in God.  I pray daily.   Jesus himself said when we pray, we are to do it in a locked room, that we are not supposed to advertise our faith so that we do not project that "better than you" vibe.  I do go to church on Sundays to share in fellowship, but I don't pay attention to who is praying longer or harder.  No one should.

I believe we are all entitled to our own opinions, and that we shouldn't put others down just because they disagree.  How boring if we all agreed!

I believe that freedom of speech comes with responsibility.  It's not an opinion if it's a lie.  It's just a lie.

I believe that what anyone does in the privacy of their own home, as long as it's legal and doesn't hurt anyone, is their business, not mine.

I believe that there needs to be more tolerance in this world, especially here in the USA.  We have become a divided nation, and shame on us.  There is no way we can be a leader of democracy in this world, if we are fighting each other about our political and religious beliefs.

This is why I'm a Democrat.
