Stop the auto refresh!

Ok, this is just a short rant and a sorta-like poll. The auto refresh drives me nuts. I'd spend more time at TPM without it.

Who's with me? Anybody else hate the auto-refresh, or am I just a cranky old lady? (OK, not that old, but I can see old from here.)

At the very least, TPM should lengthen the interval. What's going to change in five seconds??

(Addendum. Yes, I'm aware that it's more like 20 seconds, it just feels like five to me. Also, I know that the main cafe page doesn't auto-refresh, but all the "news" pages do, which is where I do most of my reading these days. Just in case you were going to snark about that.)

I hate the auto refresh too, though I mostly just shrug over it. More and more sites are using it so I figured there must be some financial reason. Maybe each time an ad is reloaded they get some money?

Ah, well, I know my complaint will fall on deaf ears. But those of us who are distracted by flashy-things (and not the MIB kind) have a hard time finishing an article when the refresh keeps pulling our eye away from the text we're trying to read.

(It's entirely possible that all of those first person plural pronouns should be first person singular ones... i.e., "I" instead of "we." But hey, maybe I'm not the only one. It's at least possible somebody else has the same problem, right?)
