Yes, JudyAnn, though I think the media is completely lost right now. They have a lack of credibility and record of being wrong so many times on so many things.
So I think there's no longer a sure correlation between mass media and mass hysteria. The former has lost the ability to create the latter. It's like they swing and miss. They try to get something going but they lack traction--I think the change reflects a switch--we now have high information voters and low-information media.
The vulnerability is still there though.
Personally, I've cut out watching Sunday morning talk shows altogether, as well as CNN, CNBC and much of MSNBC (with the exception of Rachel Maddow and occasionally KO).
One more point and I'll stop digressing--corporate media has no business reporting the news. They've been tangled in journalism for too long and it's time to properly separate the two.
