The left's outrage is a pretty general and broad term. Did parents pull their kids from school? Did the extremes and not so extreme on the left scream he was trying to indoctrinate our children. Not to make a too fine a point of it, but yes we would be wise to remember our own transgressions. However, in this case I'm thinking apples and oranges. The outrage came from several Dem. higher ups and not a segment of the population as a whole. There was no attempt by school districts to gag Bush. Children were not required to get permission from parents. And in the end Rep. Ford and his cohorts wound up looking rather foolish in their complaint. In the case of Obama's speech a entire class of right wingers look foolish and small minded.

Ok I will admit my 2-3% was a bit unrealistic. However I disagree that capping admin cost is undoable. We could say that private insurers have to keep admin. costs within +3% of Medicare or around 8.5%. They say they are 8.9% now. As far as capping profits I'm not so sure it is as hard as one might think, especially of premium increases must be approved by a rate board before enacting. If you profits exceed X you are not getting a premium increase.

Jason how can you no be concerned with the proposals. If the proposal as expressed actually do nothing to reform the system.

Jason _
You are going to have to point me to the parts of this WSJ piece that makes sense.

1) We have the same mantra about tort reform which is fine, but to claim it's some panacea is absurd when it represents less than 1% of the cost of healthcare.

2) We get same quality argument when we rank 37th in the world. And while they say many foreigners come here they fail to mention the numerous American that go overseas to get affordable care.

3) High Risks Pools - So lets dump the sick all in one place and put the burden on the states. I wonder why they haven't jumped at this encouragement.

4) No ads for health insurance? what planet are these guys on.

5) The across state lines is fine as long as insurance companies are required to cover everybody that applies, no caps, and no dropping. However, since these regs are not in any Republican plan all that will happen is that Insurers will cherry pick.

6) And the bit about everybody is already covered they just have to go to the emergency room is just to absurd. They fail to mention what this non coverage ads to our healthcare bill.

Their entire argument boils down to: let the open market take care of it. I'm fine with this as long as the insurers are heavily regulated and I mean heavily. Profits are capped 2-3%, admin cost are capped 2-3%, No pre existing conditions, no life time caps, cover anybody and everybody that signs up. You want to raise premiums you need to go before a regulatory board to get approval.

About the only thing I agree with is that if companies get a tax break so should individuals. Or better yet take away the break so that companies finally scream that the system doesn't work.

You know Bull Dog I do not remember anybody calling Bush the anti-Christ or Hitler. Nor do I remember the left threatening violence. Nor left leaning preachers praying for his death Nor do I remember parents pulling their kids out of school when Bush Sr, or Reagan spoke to them. And Reagen spoke about policy specifically taxes and guns. And Bush Sr, asked how they could help him. Short memories are a bitch.

Complaining about the war, saying it was a mistake yes and it was and is. Dissing the troops? No. (abu ghraib is a different story and so are the idiots from Blackwater) In fact I think the left went out of their way to separate what the administration was doing from the troops. Unlike the 60's where we failed to draw that line.

Here's the problem calling Obama Hitler, thinking a stay in school and work hard speech is some how indoctrination just makes your side look at tad silly, none too bright and afraid of some non-existent bogeyman. And if I hear one more nut job screaming I want my America back . . . Let's not forget it's my America also and the left is no less in love with it than the right.

works for me - close up the insurance companies. Then tell the doctors and hospitals that they can charge no more than the local vets.

http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2007/edition_04-22-2007/Pet_Insurance

Now, the bad news:(re pet healthcare) The price tags for these treatments can be astronomical—sometimes in the tens of thousands. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, Americans spent more than $9.4 billion for vet care in 2006. Most of us would do anything to save our pets, but with medical costs soaring, it’s not so simple. Imagine having to make the heart-wrenching decision to pay an exorbitant bill or allow the unthinkable—“financial euthanasia.”

Pet health insurance as an industry has grown by an average of 26% per year since 2001. There are over 800 companies offering pet insurance.

The hypocrisy of the right is just astounding. When Ronald Reagen spoke to students strictly about policy it was A OK.

http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/archives/speeches/1988/111488c.htm

PRESIDENT REAGAN: Well, thank you very much. Please, be seated. You know, this is a real treat for me, having you here, and to have in a little while the chance to answer some of your questions. Let me also offer a special hello to those of you who are watching on C-Span, or the Instructional Television Network. Thank you for inviting us into your home or your school today ...

And that is a vision that goes beyond economics and politics, it's also a moral vision, grounded in the reverence and faith of those who believe that with God's help, they could create a free and democratic nation ...

Because you see, the taxes can be such a penalty on people that there's no incentive for them to prosper and to earn more and so forth because they have to give so much to the government ...

There was talk about having a gun ban in California. It didn't go through. But I got a letter from a man in San Quentin Prison. And from the prison he wrote me the letter to tell me he was in there for burglary, he was a burglar. And he said, "I just want you to know that if that law goes through, here in San Quentin there will be celebrating throughout the day and night by all the burglars who are in prison."

Now have Obama speak about personal responsibility and it's indoctrination. Why am I not surprised.

I'm always willing to have an intelligent conversation with somebody with opposing views. However finding someone with an intelligent opposing view is rapidly become impossible
