One More Attept to Smear Obama with the Socialist Label
This article on National Review Online has received a lot of play today. It's an 8-year old interview on Chicago's public radio station with law professor and state senator Obama.
The right is trying to portray this as a smoking gun when it comes to Obama's desire to redistribute wealth.
Any reasonable person will listen to this and hear that Obama is speaking in historical terms, as a law professor, pointing out that the courts are not the proper channel for wealth redistribution. It's a purely academic discussion, and not at all advocating for redistribution.
The problem here is it's a very nuanced interview, and will be very easy to take out of context and portray Obama as a radical who advocates for reparations and/or redistribution as part of the civil rights movement.
