CLASS WAR: "Say, Don't You Remember? You Called Me Al!"
CLASS WAR: Third Installment
GOP Senators have all but declared outright that they will withhold any help in curing the overall economic slowdown unless they can first break the Autoworkers Union (UAW). In so doing, they have painted a picture of who are to be the "Haves and Have-Nots" in their new order for this economy.
Class War is a series of essays prepared to first establish the background of this present Congressional stalemate along with suggestions for the best way to move forward quickly and resolve the problems that threaten our economic health.
In this installment, I offer the following photo essay as a reminder that we have confronted times in the past when the economy has been allowed to turn upside down in serving the interests of only a few Americans - with predictably disastrous results. (Thanks to Tom Waits and "RedCeltic" for this poignant look into the dark history of a previously failed economy.)
Later This Week -
CLASS WAR: "I Ain't Your Human Resource!"

Great Waits, and good piece SleepinJeezuz.
We may not want to see it as a "Class War" - but damn straight THEY do. Vitter. As they said, he'd rather pay a prostitute than an autoworker.
If they completely bust down the Big 3 & the UAW, it's gonna be a race to the bottom. and it'll embolden them to try to twist everything in that direction. We're gonna need to put a floor under this thing, and fast. And the UAW's as good a place as any to start.
Thanks.

Progressives build. Republicans tear down. If our economy goes south of Hoverville doesn't it effect them too? Is it the goal of every good Republican to sink the Titanic even if they go down with it?
I've read that political affiliation is genetic. Bad genes. Bad genes...

Can't be genetic. My two parents are repubs. Their oldest 2 became Dems. In high school already, I was breaking the mold.

Same here: Both parents repubs. Four children -- the oldest and next to the last are professional christians and serious repubs. I'm second, and my youngest sister is a serious Dem like me.
But for the record, my kids are Dems, my brother & older sister have 7 between them, all raving neocons!

Definitely not genetic. My two staunch Republican parents brought into the world three Democrats.

Sleepin is mighty busy on the weekend. I remember this picture. I grew up hearing about it. Without looking back, I have two kids who are solid Dems.
Spent three hours with them on the phone the night of the election and the week prior making sure we all knew where to vote. And my daughter even talked her husband into voting for Barack.
The past fades away unless we read and talk about it.

You've got that right. And the problem can be understanding that the events and dynamics of the thirties aren't so different from today and still have a lot of relevance. We Americans keep worshipping 'newness' and 'modernity' and so we seem to look down on our own history.

My parents were Kennedy democrats turned Republicans, my sister is a Repub, I was a Repub as was my husband, his ENTIRE family, our 2 kids and both their spouses. My husband and I, one of our kids, a niece and her daughter and husband saw the error of our ways...the rest may be terminal.
We'll keep setting a good example for them. Talk is not helpful.
