We are advised, in the final graf of an otherwise unimportant piece, that the fix is in at the joint house/senate conference, and the confereees, (Robert Byrd notwithstanding) are bringing back a can of reconciliation whup-ass for the Senate Republican Caucus (and their DINO friends).

We tend to forget around here sometimes because of the prevalence of Fox News outlets and neanderthal newspapers that Robert C. Byrd is not the most liberal Senator in Congress.
Of course, if you read his writings and actually listen to him, it is not hard to figure out that he too is at heart a conservative Democrat.
At this point in Byrd's career, it is hard to tell who is writing and thinking and voting for him.
