I agree, I think that they need to include the public option in the bill that goes before the senate and force the GOP and Blue Dogs to actually filibuster health care reform; not just the public option but the entire bill.

Don't let the GOP get away with just saying that they are going to filibuster and then have the closure vote, actually make them do it on CSPAN for for as long as you can. We need the footage of the GOP literally doing nothing but saying no against the entire bill.

That's a pretty good comment! They had the option of choosing the Gov run cafeteria or head out to a private restaurant. It's nice to have options! Also last time I noticed, government run cafeterias haven't put private restaurants out of business just yet!

You have to keep in mind that profits are only counted after all of the salaries and bonuses are paid to the executives; those are just "cost of doing business". So when the Insurance companies say they only have a 3.4% profit margin or something like that, they are hiding that they are paying hundreds of millions per year in excessive executive pay before a dime is counted as "profit". I wonder how many claims had to be denied to support a 25 million dollar salary for the CEO of United Health? We could start with the face that they deny 1/3 claims submitted.

Sen. Mike Enzi's comments here show that the goal is the amount of time that the GOP can get to slow down a vote. He said that they failed by only getting 2 hours in the HELP bill, so obviously they are taking a slower approach on the Finance bill.

I have to say that I think (hope) that the White House is trying to downplay the public option in the Senate and they hope that it at least is included with a trigger that they can then remove when the bills are merged in committee with the House.

They love the idea that we should shop for our surgeries and treatments as a means to drive down costs and force us to take better care of ourselves. So what exactly am I supposed to do about the car accident that left my friend paralyzed and well over a million dollars worth of surgeries later he has to sell his house to pay down a small fraction of what he owes. I love how children see color. My 3 year old daughter who is Hispanic was fairly "brown" by the end of the summer from all her days at the pool and beach. I said something like "wow baby you are so brown this summer" and she responded with "yup, just like my friend Ama". Her friend Ama is our neighbor who's family is from Ghana and is very dark skinned black; but my daughter didn't see it that way, she was excited that she was getting darker like her good friend.

Unless we mess them up, which we parents have been known to do; children have the most amazing outlook and views of things like race and we would benefit from seeing the world as they do sometimes.

My problem with a trigger is that when you set some metrics for the Health Care Industry to hit and a certain amount of time to hit them they will simply focus their top lawyers and analysts on the case and figure out how they can game the system. Something like this is always going to be somewhat subjective in evaluating and therefore since we know that the Health Care Industry is failing us miserably, on purpose I might add; we should just go ahead and pull the trigger now.

I think that is a fair point that there could have been confusion on the part of the survey responders.

The question reads: "Do you think that George W. Bush had
advance knowledge of the 9/11 terrorist
attacks?"

It is certainly plausible that many people could have thought this would include the "Bin Laden Determined to Attack..." memo. I doubt that was what the question was really referring to but they left it open to interpretation.
