Obama and the establishment

I heard that Obama has been making his picks of Hillary Clinton to the State Department, and a center right economic team in order to appease the establishment so that they won't strongly oppose his policies. But is the economic and foreign policy establishment really that powerful in the eyes of the American people? The economic establishment has been discredited through deregulatory policies that has led to the current financial meldown. While the foreign policy establishment has lost legitimacy with the American public by the war in Iraq. However those who want a change in both foreign and economic policies were powerful enough to allow the Democrats regain control of the house in 2006 and control the presidency in 2008. Is Obama overestimating the power of the Washington establishment while ignoring the voting strength of those who want a true change in policies?

Don't base your arguments on what you "heard.!" Obama's own advisors have told the Press that he is not governing from the Center-Right - why don't we take them at their word instead of what you "heard" or read on the blogosphere. The establishment is called that for a reason and Obama is not going to go into D.C. and wipe out the establishment in one fell swoop. Right now, he has work with what he has to make the changes we need right now. And let's stop assuming that just because he is bringing in old faces that they do not have new ideas. In addition, please remember what Obama has said a few times: Power does not concede anything without a fight!

anew08 is correct. The Obama team is building a New Administration that smacks of diversity in ethnicity, gender, geography and educational background. If you count Volker, Obama has gone all the way back to the Kennedy Administration through Clinton (except LBJ & Bush 41). And this new team is clever and proven. Remember, Rahm is one of a few who really gets credit for increasing the House Dems by over 55 and the Senate by at least 13. In two years!! Sit back, relax and follow this new wave.
