Thank you WW for your comments. I can't imagine digging out from a hurricane. We had an experience here two years ago with the installation of a new roof. After the old shingles were removed, a storm ripped through causing our second floor ceilings to collapse from the heavy rain. Even though that was on a much smaller scale, it sure points you in the direction of what really is important. And, I think getting older one tends to see things in a different perspective.

Thanks Maggie. Yes, and I think that perhaps life was even more enjoyable then. The fact that most Moms stayed at home and Dad worked played a big roll in our upbringing. I remember in school if you got into trouble, your dad was waiting for you when you got home. I think one learned their manners and what was and what wasn't acceptable.

Thank you for your post--it brought back a lot of memories.

Fishing has always been a big part of my life. As a youngster, growing up on the shores of Lake Ontario, fishing was something we always did. It was fun and enjoyable. I spent a big part of my summers at my favorite Aunt's cottage on Long Point-the peninsula jutting out on Lake Erie. There were a bunch of kids and some who lived there year around who had their own boats. We would fish, swim and have all kinds of fun. I especially liked it when we would play hide and seek in the boats among the many channels leading to the open lake. We were out all day and well into the evening and sometimes even in the dark. The sounds of all the big ole bullfrogs was an added bonus.

We had no weatherman and used nature as our barometer. Prior to rain, the lily pads would come up out of the water about 4-6 inches. We also kept an eye on the Poplar, Willow and Linden trees to see if their leaves had turned upside down-an indication of approaching rain. We didn't have many wants or needs during those days. We just kept busy and had lots of fun.

Now I am content just being out in the boat-sitting in the sun reading and doing Sudoku puzzles and manning the camera in the event Sleepin catches the big one (Musky).

Maggie: Thanks for sharing. It was very moving and beautiful. I have tried to instill in my children that your friends come and go but you always have your family and to cherish them. Aren't good memories wonderful? I cherish mine and am so fortunate. I often think "if only i could just give my Mom one more hug." My Nana was Scotch and a real spitfire. She taught me to be a survivor, for which I thank her.
