Civil War - NOW He Tells Us!

Envoy Warns of Possible Civil War in Iraq AP,

Possible???

Breaking News: 78 Dead, Dozens Wounded in Shiite Mosque Attack (Juan Cole)

Possible civil war?

t's been going on for two years - "hot" for two months -and that so-called "unity government" or whatever label you want to put on it, don't mean squat.

This war is a political operation, not an Iraqi one, a Rovian one, not a military one. The "democracy" Bush is so desperate to save, he never intended in the first place. Operation Iraqi Freedom was a lie from the very start. Bush intended a caretaker governent, a colonial state, headed by Ahmed Chalabi, until Sistani put paid to his bullshit and demanded elections.

Then the elections became the Liar's Meme to cover-up the unfolding disaster on the ground and with each election, a new PR offensive. After each election, the nation of Iraqi took another giant step toward oblivion.

National unity government? Tell us another tall tale.  This is a Silver Bullet to Iraq's Head

The Tip of the Iceberg, Tip of the Spear

Shorter Bush: Classification is a tool of my political strategy. -- Josh Marshall

As Josh and Larry have noted, and Greg Sargent (Plame Game)   at the American Prospect has explained in detail, Murray Wass's latest disclosure is but the tip of the iceberg.

But what does the iceberg look like? Is it merely part of a post-invasion political cover-up run by the Cabal out of Rove's and Libby's Offices or is it more?

I believe that this "grand narrative" is part of a larger whole, and in order to get a sense of what it looks like, you have to change frames. You have to re-frame the entire war, from run-up to the unfolding run down and view ALL of it, not from a military/foreign policy frame but as a domestic political operation.  Tactical, strategic, diplomatic decisions were determined not by their own exigencies but by Bush political requirements.

The War was conceived and is being executed as political not a military operation. It is not nor has it ever been run by generals and diplomats but ultimately and in every material respect as as a domestic political affair by Karl Rove, Scooter Libby on behalf of Bush/Cheney out of the WH.

Pat Roberts's role has been that of Master Sgt in charge of cover up. Think not of Operation Iraqi Freedom but of Operation Rolling Bullsh*t. Then you'll understand the War on Iraq in general and in any of its particulars.

Impeachment & Censure, Rats & Sinking Ships

In 1972 John Conyers and others introduced a resolution of censure in the House Most yawned, many chuckled. One year later, the rats having left, the ship sunk.

In 2006, John Conyers and Russ Feingold each introduced their own censure resolutions...THIS JUST IN from the SHIP

Gonzales Draws Criticism From Panel Chief

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer 36 minutes ago

The Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee pointedly criticized Attorney General Alberto Gonzales Thursday for "stonewalling" by refusing to answer questions about the Bush administration's warrantless eavesdropping program.

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., said Gonzales was frustrating his panel's oversight of the Justice Department and the controversial surveillance by declining to provide information about how the program is reviewed inside the administration and by whom.

When Republicans whine about an "Impeachment Congress", the Democrats best answer them loudly and clearly

No Cover-up Congress!

Then we shall see what happens to the shipboard rats

Impeachment Talk Discomfit You?

Then take a deep breath because the brouhaha over the Feingold Censure Resolution was just an ice-breaker.

Our position is that whatever grievances a nation may have, however objectionable it finds the status quo, aggressive warfare is an illegal means for settling those grievances or for altering those conditions. Let me make clear that while this law is first applied against German aggressors, the law includes, and if it is to serve a useful purpose, it must condemn aggression by any other nations, including those which sit here now in judgment U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, US Prosecutor - Nuremberg

Is there any Higher Crime than two count Nuremberg War Crimes?  Not if yours is a nation that grants constitutional stature to its international obligations; a nation that sat in judgement at Nuremberg; a nation that declares the national sovereignty of aggressor states forfeit.

Time to Talk War Crimes
By Robert Parry

In a world where might did not make right, George W. Bush, Tony Blair and their key enablers would be in shackles before a war crimes tribunal at the Hague, rather than sitting in the White House, 10 Downing Street or some other comfortable environs in Washington and London.

At a minimum George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld should be removed from office for caonspiracy to wage and for waging a war of aggression. There can be no higher crime, save treason, if this is truly a nation of laws.

Texas 22 Intelligence Report

T22 Intelligence Report, Democratic Party Insurgent Cell 74759

When first I heard the news, my first reaction =- "Nick Lampson - yesterday frontrunner, today also ran". Surely the GOP would run against the Specter of the Pelosi Impeachment Congress not Lampson.

My bro's assesssment, not as bleak as mine. He's no Paul Begala but has lived in Sugarland, Missouri City for 30 years.

A liberal democrat in hell says

1. Tom DeLay's biggest appeal - Power, goodies for Fort Bend County

2. Republicans in disarray in Texas and in T22- scandals, corruption, factional infighting

3. Lampson could win in East Texas (think Vidor BumperDrag Olympics). he can win in T22

4. Run Against Nancy Pelosi - the Nationalized Election - not so effective as I had assumed - Lampson has enuf visibility, name, and cconservative cred. to turn the Nancy Card back on the Republicans

5. Texas Election Code - 2 options - Special Election and the GOP can hold a caucus to replace their nominee. Perry cannot appoint

6. Only one GOP candidate for the GOP to beat Lampson is a State Senator who is not as yet in the race...could be a problem..The rest of the local talent isn't terribly talented, have their own scandals or ate at each other's Republican Throats

OTOH, 65% GOP registration
