Michelle Obama is empathetic, eloquent and profound, and might succeed where former First Ladies failed.
I don't want to sound like a "fan" of Michelle, but that is what I am quickly becoming.
We watched her speech yesterday to a group of activist women in the White House, and her grace and dignity and determination flowed from every word.
She has the intellectual qualities of a Hillary Clinton and the empathy of an Eleanor Roosevelt. And the fashion sense of a Jackie O. Not to mention glowing good looks (OK, so I mentioned it.) And an icy, serious stare that could wilt any would-be heckler.
I've heard more than one pundit from the center-left suggest she should learn from Hillary's hard lesson, and remain a lightweight on the sidelines in this historic fight.
But after watching her eloquent and profound opening salvo, I would guess there's a lot more we will hear from her. And that the leaders on the right are already worried she will succeed where Hillary failed.
The more, the better. She's more than just a class act, she's a very moving speaker. And this is an issue that needs those qualities from every quarter.

I love her too.Cannot be that bad to pay some homage to our leaders.
And that is what she is. An appointed position for sure. But how many votes did Michelle muster for My President. A good percentage I would guess.
Many dimensions to this lady.

If you are standing way off and watching the ebb and flow of this 'debate', it seems as if a new refrain is coming in from the side (I guess that would be the left side.) Michelle this week - focusing on the very real say that women should have; Joe Biden next week -- sitting down with seniors.
I think we are going to start hearing about the human side of health care in heartfelt, human ways that these two can convey, even better than Oabma himself. Not a bad thing to have in the forefront of people's minds as the last negotiations begin.
One has to wonder sometime if there may not be an actual conductor... Or at the very least some intelligent and effective response to events. It's so nice to have people in the White House using their BRAINS!
And ditto to what you had to say about Michelle. I think that a lot of the trust people (or at least a lot of women) were willing to extend to Obama early on may have been their judgment about the person he chose to marry .. and the way he interacts with her. For someone who didn't want him to go into politics (and she truly didn't, apparently) and who must live, in moments, with greater overriding fear than most of us have to face ever, she is truly giving him - and us - 100% thought and effort.

It is not just women who experienced an increase in their estimation of the candidate Obama when they heard Michelle speak. His choice of her reflects well on his judgement. She is his equal as an orator, in her more personal style. We are lucky that they heeded the call to serve.

Larry;
"She is his equal as an orator,"
At least... I'd guess they are each others' best speech coaches. I definitely saw hints of Barrack's "serious, transitioning to upbeat" style more than once.

Can't help but think Axelrod might be managing some of this WH healthcare reform PR strategy.
But with that in mind, I always suspected Michelle had more influence on the day-to-day campaign back during the race, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her sitting at the strategy tables, tossing that icy stare-down at anyone proposing too much compromise.
She seems to me to be one of Barrack's most progressive (and aggressive) advisors.
Like I said, the intellectual qualities of Hillary.
