Long line today. Waited an hour (this is rural Pennsylvania where no one ever waited an hour to vote). Minor commotion when a "poll worker" was escorted out. Seems she was actually a McCain campaigner who was requesting photo id and making confusion (there is no photo id requirement in my area).

Things calmed down and voting was brisk and busy. My district tipped democrat this past spring thanks ot the interest in the primary and the good work of the local democrats.

I guess I would want to know how new nukes would rebalance our strategic posture. Prior to the current administration, the posture supported a peaceful stand off with USSR and then later Russia. The Bush Admin restarted SDI and talked a good game about Nato membership for former Soviet bloc countries, thereby undermining the stasis.

Will renovation of the existing arsenal rebalance the Russia/US equation? Or will it be another destabalizing exercise, like SDI?

Reed,

Your missing an important part of the story that seriously undermine's your petty attack on Governor Pallin; namely, she is going to give her wardrobe to charity as soon as the campaign is over.

You and your liberal legions would deny the single mother of two, who works all day on an essembly line, and then waits tables well into the early hours of the morning, the chance to sport 3 inch heeled Manolo Blahniks! It seems vain, but if she has to schlepp cheap beer in a dark smoke-filled hole, she should, at the minimum, feel fabulous.

Or the retired school teacher who's been bumped out of her assisted living facility for lack of insurance, and now has to live on the charity of local churches and shelters, often spending the night on the filthy floors of the local bus station: Doesn't she deserve an Albert Nipon
Diamond-Textured Jacket & Dress Set? Or even a lightly used Jemma Kid Bio-Mineral Perfecting Powder compaq?

You act like you care about the poor, but do you? Do you Armani-style?

Good explanation of CDS and where they came from. In general the argument that laws had any effect on the markets is absurd. It's the application of laws that matter. So when the SEC turns a blind eye so often that it loses all sight, we should not be surprised that the market becomes overly leveraged on unsound instruments. Utlimately, we were one memo from avoiding this catastrophe. Had the SEC requested that all fixed income instruments be risk managed as vigorously as securities, we'd all be living in different times. By the way, the SEC did not need a law authorizing this; they were already authorized.

Oh well, I guess we can do without two key principles of the last twenty years: free markets and compounded interest.
