Thanks. I don't know who is sponsoring Prop 1 in my state, but they want a Constitutional Convention to ban gay marriage, among other things.
Seems like the right is redoubling it's efforts on the state level since on the National level they get nowhere.
The right wingers have always been working at the state and local levels. It's time we on the other end of the spectrum get more active, from the school board level on up.
Support progressive candidates, run yourselves, push our own ballot measures to counter the extremist looney-tunes out there. Just remember that real progress is incremental, and that it's important to always take a partial, "half a loaf" victory, while never forgetting that something like that just means the project's not yet finished.
Decisive battles are rare.
"Decisive battles are rare."
Truer words were never spoken.
Here in Oregon we have a pest yclept Bill Sizemore who makes a living, funded by out-of-state rightwing millionaires, of putting noxious measures on the state ballot. His goal is to act as test for the newest wordings and selling points on the right, to drain funds from opposing groups who are obligated to respond, and to reduce the voter turnout by making each ballot a nightmare of lengthy ballot measures attacking unions, teachers, zoning, voting mechanisms, etc. etc.
He is completely cynical as he re-registers his measures for the next election cycle, knowing full well they are heading for defeat in the current one.
Hey Chino B., where ya been - we missed you! I see from your blog you've been putting a lot of work into defeating Proposition 8. Thanks for stopping by TPM to deliver an important message!
Hey, thanks for dropping by my place and for the kind words.
I've been over at Calitics and Pam's House Blend for this Prop 8 thing. With all the free time I'm gonna have after Tuesday, I'll be looking forward to finally figuring out how to use this newfangled TPM interface :-)
For starters, I'm gonna preview this comment a half-dozen times just because I can.
