Friday, when it was announced that the country had lost another half million jobs in the month of Janurary alone, the GOP decided to filibuster the stimulus bill in the Senate for the following reasons: Only 42% of the stimulus bill is tax cuts, the bill is just too big, it's not bipartisan enough, and they feel they are being unjustifiably rushed!!!! They have chosen to delay the bill as long as humanly possible, via parliamentary procedure, completely indifferent to the urgency of the economic crisis, and all the facts.

Most economists now agree that our economy is sinking at an alarmingly accelerating rate towards a depression, that based on the "Great Depression" many of our economic indicators now suggest we are actually in the first stages of a depression, and that only immediate, bold and drastic action can stop the economy from sliding into a long, very painful and deep one.

The clear majority of economists are concerned that this stimulus bill won't work if it's not massive enough. Many more economists are concerned that the current bill isn't of sufficient size than believe that it's too big. The vast majority of economists also agree that tax cuts are the VERY LEAST effective method of stimulating an economy that's rapidly spinning toward a depression - the way ours is. A study just released by Moody's shows that tax cuts would garner 57¢ on the dollar LESS in stimulus than that same dollar would produce if spent on infrastructure.

According to Lindsey Graham, one of the most influential members of the GOP Senate, President Obama "has been completely A.W.O.L." in negotiations with their side of the isle. This claim is positively outrageous, considering that for the past two weeks the entire country has watched President Obama do everything but walk their dogs for them on our TVs every night.

This makes one wonder, just what WOULD be bipartisan enough for the GOP? Just what percentage of the bill WOULD be enough in tax cuts? Just how soon WOULD be soon enough for the GOP?

The sad truth about the GOP strategy was revealed last Thursday by Representative Jeff Sessions, who declared that rather than being bipartisan, the GOP should model their efforts after the Taliban. To quote Representative Sessions, "Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban." Obviously speaking about President Obama, he goes on to say what the GOP needs to do is "to disrupt and change a person's entire processes" and "to understand that insurgency may be required". He was simply repeating, in essence, what Michael Steele declared when picked to head the Republican party last week, saying the GOP would "knock down" anyone who dares get in their way.

It appears that the Republican party has but one goal. Following the guidance of their figurehead, Rush Limbaugh, it is clearly their profoundest wish that President Obama fail to right our economy, and that he take the American people, and our country's future, down the tubes with him, so they can then come back in four years and proclaim, "We told you it wouldn't work!" and pretend they had nothing to do with the failure. Proving once and for all that the saying "The only thing that doesn't change is change" isn't true at all. The only thing that doesn't change is the Republican party.

Contrary to Republican claims, most experts who've studied the "Great Depression" agree that any criticism about FDR's handing of it should be leveled at the fact that half way into his public works program, the opposition bullied him into reducing it by 50% because it was too expensive - and as soon as he did, unemployment shot right back up again, and the economy stalled out once more. Thank goodness the Second World War came along when it did, the Republicans say, or who knows how long the "Great Depression" would have lasted.

This leads us to ask a rather scary question... Is the GOP economic plan WWIII? Because tax cuts, their favorite answer to every problem, obviously hasn't worked...

And it would seem that a world war is the only other "effective" economic solution they could conceivably offer.

Who IS Mayhill Fowler?

By now, most of us know the name of the person who surreptitiously
weaseled her way into a private Obama fund raiser hosted by Alex
Mehran, a wealthy real estate developer and boating enthusiast, and his
companion Carolyn Davis in California, armed with some kind of a
recorder, and walked out with a sound bite that's created a veritable
shit storm in the political world.

But who IS this woman, how did she pull this off, and what could have
motivated her to do what she did? These are the questions that many of
us have been asking as we watched the media, Clinton and McCain
campaigns attempt to distort Obama's remarks into a bombshell.

Meet Mayhill Fowler, a 61 year old "Wesley Girl" who landed in Oakland California, and married well.

As the wife of attorney James C. Fowler (a UCSB undergrad; UC Berkley
J.D. circa 1968), a Mc Cain supporter and boat lover who owns a 43 foot
yacht via some kind of revokable trust he established, and who is a
partner with the prestigious firm Bingham & McClutchen, which
list's Mehran's firm as a client on it's website, specializes in real
estate law, does work in the energy sector, and who's clients also
ocassionaly include people who buy military bases that have been
closed, Mayhill Fowler inhabits that rarified air of the truly rich and
truly elite. Evidently the irony was lost on this Wesley Girl, who
married so well, when she wrote her article disparaging Barack Obama as
an "elitist".

An Obama campaign insider told Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross at the San Fransico Chronicle's SF Gate blog Undercover blogger taped Obama's blunt remarks
that "Mayhill Fowler had tried to get into one of two Obama fundraising
events in the Bay Area a couple of months back where former New Jersey
Sen. Bill Bradley stood in as a proxy. She was turned away, even though
she had offered to pay, says our source."

So having tried to get into a private fundraiser before and having
failed, it doesn't seem like much of a coincidence that among her
husband's clients is Alex Mehran, the host of the now infamous
funraiser.

Mayhill, the epitomy of an elitist desperate housewife, fancies herself
as a "freelance writer", and started blogging at the completely ignored
site she created called "Junehill, Owl, and A Green Dog, Too" Junehill, Owl and a Green Dog, Too: March 2007
in March of 2007 - a blog which begins with a post claiming that she
was a "Green Dog Democrat" and ends in July of the same year with the
rather ominous prediction, "When the day comes that I am no longer
enamoured of Mr. O, I will put this list out to pasture." - before
picking up her blog shop and moving in as an unpaid "Citizen
Journalist" on the Huffington Post's "Off The Bus" site .

When Mrs Fowler isn't sneaking into private fundraisers with recording
devices, and writing provocatively negative blogs about candidates she
supposedly supports, she busies herself with a little operation called
"Odysseus Cruising", a company owned by five private investors in the
U.S. and E.U. The owners of Odysseus Cruising share a 75 foot yacht
which they rent out to wealthy travelers who want to cruise the Greek
Isles and Turkish Coast.

Mrs. Fowler owns the domain name Odysseus Cruising
and lists them as her employer. So it's rather odd that Mayhill Fowler
appears in the website's "guest book" where she raves about her cruise
experiences and promises to "be back next year!". Her daughter,
Caroline, also lists her praise in the guest book comments. Evidently,
pretending to be someone you're not runs in the family.

With regards to what motivates a person to do what she did, that is a
question only she can answer. but then, desperate housewives are known
to do desperate things to get the attention they crave. ...even elite
desperate housewives.

I just sat here and watched James Carville on CNN laboring in an attempt to use sports as an analogy for Florida and Michigan not getting re-do's of their primaries - saying that you don't end a game with 4 minutes left on the clock just because one team is losing.

But if we're going to use sports analogies, let's be fair and perfectly clear here!

There are TWO reasons while Carville's little analogy doesn't fly.

1) In every sport there are PENALTIES! If one team breaks a rule, they ARE penalized. This isn't arbitrary. They are penalized EVERY time they are caught breaking a rule.

Voters in Florida and Michigan elected their lawmakers, and those lawmakers KNOWING broke the DNC party rules regarding primary dates. To clarify some confusion - contrary to what the Clinton camp and main stream media have spun, these lawmakers were FULLY AWARE that their actions would strip these states of their delegates and chose to vote to move their primaries up in spite of the ramifications.

Not ONLY were these state lawmakers FULLY AWARE of the consequences of their actions, the lawmakers in Florida voted almost UNANIMOUSLY (118 to 0 in their house, and in their senate only 2 lawmakers voted against it) and the lawmakers in Michigan overwhelmingly voted in favor of moving up their primary 5 days AFTER Florida was officially stripped of it's delegates for defying the party's rules! THEY KNEW FULL WELL WHAT THEY WERE DOING - AND DID IT ANYWAY!

Hillary Clinton signed the DNC pledge to punish these states in accordance with the rules Florida and Michigan chose to break. She even reaffirmed this pledge on public radio. It wasn't until AFTER she realized that she'd lost the nomination that she became impassioned about this issue.

2) NO SPORT CHANGES THE RULES OF A GAME AFTER THE GAME'S BEGUN AND IS STILL BEING PLAYED! PERIOD!

Carville's little analogy did much to point out that he, too, is willing to say and do ANYTHING to get this thing to work out the way the Clinton's think it should... but if this WERE football, they'd all have been thrown out of the game for "unsportsmanlike conduct" or "unnecessary roughness" long ago.
