Come out, come out, wherever you are!
To once frequent Cafe voices, who have been in hiding in recent weeks, "Ally ally in free. Come out, come out, wherever you are!"
In honor of the funny names of the missing, one of my favorites from Dr. Seuss' Sneeches:
Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons, and she named them all Dave?Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one, and calls out "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get one.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run! This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn.
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt.
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt.
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate . . . .
But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.
[Edited to show source, copied from here, and to remove the spurious link that was behind Zanzibar.]

Maybe we can get Greg Sargent to sniff them out.
He's got a talent for that kind of thing, or maybe start an e-mail campaign?
:)
Great Idea Irish and wayitwas.

Social faux pas on my part not to recognize member wayitwas for spurring the idea.
Here's a great new blog piece about how Iran looks from the inside.

No problem at all. I stayed home to do things around the house today, but have spent most of the day catching up on TPM reading. The first thing I noticed was the absence of Howard Berkowitz's ever-present voice. I seem to remember him saying he would be away at a conference at some point? Maybe that's the reason. I also noticed posts that have gone missing (jeffgee's excellent "The bloom's off the turd blossom") and a possible computer-generated member (noted on the Cafe Management thread "Change's a'comin")

Did someone rate it a zero? I can't see any zero rated posts, although my Karma is supposedly good enough to let me rate blog entries.
I have read that there are quite a few odd things going on in the cafe, ever since the "improooovments."
Perhaps now that the elections are over, they will have time to address some of these problems.

Besides the ratings snafu the site is acting even funnier. You can't see jeffgee's "turd blossom" post? I have no doubt that you can't see it (Why? I don't know) but I checked that thread this morning and saw it just fine. I have no idea what is going on...

Libertine, can you see ratings? If so, what is jeffgee's post rated? I've been looking through old posts, and I can't find any with more than 4 Excellent ratings. I think the software may be inadvertently hiding highly rated posts as well as troll-rated posts (which I also can't see). Maybe member who can't see or give ratings can still see these posts? Another member who has the ability to rate also couldn't see jeffgee's comments.
We could experiment by all uprating the same post and see if it disappears to those of us who can rate. I'll start by rating workerbee's comment (that follows this one) with a 4.

Yeah I can see the ratings...from what I saw it was rated "4" by one user, by me just now...
I have no idea what the problem is but I'll gladly rate workerbee's comment on this thread to help with an experiment...

Don't know what to make of it - when I followed the link you provided I could see jeffgee's comment (and gave it a 4). Thanks.

I am glad you can see it. Can you see it now if you go directly to the thread without using the link I gave?
November 10, 2006 3:39 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yes, now I can see all the comments when I go directly to the thread! I didn't count before, but I was seeing only about half of them. I focused on the jeffgee comments because they were the only ones I could specifically identify as missing, by reading responses and checking back on jeffgee's member page.

wayitwas, here is another experiment. On Workerbee's post that you and Libertine have already rated with 4's, I just rated it with a 0 (which I'll change at the end of the experiment). Is that post still visible to you?
Just wondering if that is the new troll management tool or something.

Yes, I can still see it. After being able to follow Libertine's link to the jeffgee posts,I now think the problem might not have been ratings-related - maybe I just needed to log out and log back on.

I think you may be on to something. I cannot see workerbee's post.

If y'all do decide that there's a problem (I can't tell 'cause I can't see ratings), you might want to report it on this thread. Cafe management seems to be collecting interface issues there.

I heard from Howard,
He is having trouble logging in to TPM cafe, (password doesn't work) and he's been away, but it sounds like he's OK.
Just wanted to pass that along.

I'm really confused now...
When I click on the link to Dave's profile provided by irishkg all I get is a blank page and a "page not found" message. WTF??? :-(
November 10, 2006 3:00 PM | Reply | Permalink
What "Dave's profile" did I link to on this page?
Only link I provided was to the Iranian blog by SeanPaul. I just checked that link and it worked.

In the body of the Dr. Seuss thing...in the 2nd to the last line...the word "Zanzibar" is actually a hyperlink to a profile of a member named "Dave". You didn't do that hyperlink?

I checked the page where I copied the Seuss story (link here) and here is the note at the bottom of that page which explains why you found a link at Zanzibar

LOL...that 'splains it. I thought you were doing some kind of "Where's Waldo...find the hidden link" thingy. :-D
