Have to say I don't really relate to this or to Obama `not wanting to punish` Lieberman.

I'm committed to the principle of appropriate consequences for decisions/actions. I think Lieberman's have all been hugely neoconservative and that he's been over the top ever since 9/11. He should be reaping the consequences of that now: I think he'd be dangerous as Head of that Committee in an Obama administration. He'd use his power against Obama the moment he disagreed with him.

Basically my point is that his neocon views are what led to him opposing Obama so vociferously during the campaign and he needs to reap the consequences of that so that he doesn't get the chance continue the same approach during this Administration.

sigh What those polls are missing are that Hannity's got hold of a tape of Obama in - yes, you guessed it, San Francisco, talking about his energy plan - talking about his cap and trade policy bankrupting coal plants and saying - specifically - that under him electricity prices will "skyrocket".

Hannity had Steele and Pawlenty on talking about it and they said McCain and Palin are going to be screaming it to the rooftops at all their rallies on Monday. So it's going to hit the MSM.

How many ordinary folk do you think will continue to want to vote for someone who's promised to send their electricity bills through the roof?

I don't get it. How can Pew be forecasting Obama winning by 6 points when their analysis is thus:

Obama holds a wide lead over John McCain among those who say they have already voted (32% of all likely voters) or say they plan to vote before Election Day (7%). However, it is not quite as large as it was a week ago. More significant, the race is about even among voters who plan to vote on Election Day: 46% support McCain while 45% favor Obama.

39% for Obama; But McCain leads among the 61% who will vote on election day.

Can someone explain to me how that adds up to an Obama 6 point lead?

Well I'd put money on McCain winning Ohio (voter suppression and the conservative & racist element) and he's ahead in Missouri.
Florida's interesting. I heard one pundit saying yesterday that McCain needs 90% of the Cuban vote and he's only getting 60% in the polls: but I'd have thought this Khalidi controversy could well lose Obama too many Jewish votes.
Basically I think anyone banking on Obama winning this election is kidding themselves: voter suppression and Republican hacking are the stuff of my nightmares.
I won't believe in (as opposed to hope for) an Obama victory until it's declared on election night.
(I also think Obama dug himself an utterly gratuitous hole with his spreading the wealth around meme. It gave McCain something to focus on where he had been all over the map.)

I think people who won't vote for Obama because he's African American are relaxed about saying they won't vote for him.

I think if McCain wins it will be because of Republican voter suppression - as witness all those people in NC who thought they'd voted for Obama but hadn't; and young people didn't come out in the numbers needed. I also think Obama will have lost a lot of votes because of his `spreading the wealth` around gaffe.

That's not true. He was defeated in Chicago and, according to reports, was pretty devastated by that loss - and learned from it.

In general, my impression of him is that he has superb CEO qualities - he appoints good people, insists on `no drama`, is superb at listening to all points of view and then synthesises them and I think everyone's learned from this campaign that he's superb in a crisis.
