Have I told you lately that I love you, bunny cat?

I just want to know if we can touch 400.

A lot could happen in 11 days. A week ago I thought 400 was way out of reach. If we do get over 400, the map would probably be this one:

Actually Nate at 538 says 2 of 3 districts in Nebraska might turn blue as well. So the dream map might even be more beautiful still.

Bunkitty, I hope you're right, but my current state of neurosis simply won't subside until the votes are counted. ;)

Me, too.

I know how you feel, but I'm starting to let myself believe we will bury them this Nov.4.

It's hard to trust a cat that feels the need for a disguise. Makes me wonder what you're up to.

You should see the trousers.

I believe it's possible. I am very curious to see where things stand on Monday in states like Arizona, Texas, and Alaska especially as more republicans get on board.
But what I am really wondering about now is
'what do you wear for halloween?'

I hear you.
The other day, pessimist that I am, I simulated a "Bradley effect" election day. Using the RCP average (which, in my opinion, leans a little to the right), I gave McCain every state that gave Obama any less than a five-point lead.
Obama still won with 286 electoral votes.
I'm buying some fancy beer to celebrate on Nov. 4.

I hope you're right, BunnyCat. But the Acorn "voter fraud" bluster foisted on us as part of McCain's campaign is ominous as part of their habit of accusing others of what they are doing themselves.
I can't forget RFK, Jr's meticulously-footnoted article about voter registration culls and machine machinations in the June '06 issue of Rolling Stone.
But, wait, the Obama campaign has been on every other issue as and when required. Why would I not have faith that they have this issue covered as well.
Landslide! Yes we can!

The Weather Channel called it first! Along with full details.

Then again, maybe the kitty-bunny works there!

I'm looking up the word for "landslide" in different languages. I think it would be fun to compile a list. So here's the German: Erdrutsch.

No celebrating. We'll need to stay sober for this one:
- The credit markets are largely still frozen, and Fed discount window borrowing is still high, indicating US banks are using the window to meet reserve requirements and balance payments. Basically, the financial system is on backup power.
- The latest CPI data at the bureau of labor stats provides historical CPI data, and you can see this YTD is up nearly 10% over last year. 10% inflation, folks.
- see Donal's post today. OPEC is cutting production, like in the 70s.
- foreclosures in 6 key states continue to rise and home values are down 10-20% in most markets
- unemployment claims are up (478,000 weekly claims last week)
- retail spending is down sharply; discounters such as WalMart and low-cost food suppliers (McDonalds) are seeing increases in revenues
- this is world-wide - we're not the only ones suffering, but remember that suffering leads to fighting and conflict
I'll stop there, as you get the picture. We don't need lies and games, and the American people know it. We need serious leaders with gravitas, a willingness to meet and listen to all, and plans.
If Obama wins in a landslide, that's fine. This is like winning a permit to climb K2 without O2 and it doesn't count unless we get both up and back safely. Gear up.

I'm disappointed this made the rec list -- because it's essentially a one note gloat.
In this hare-and-tortoise race, Obama is the tortoise. He has a steady, long terms message, he isn't jumping issues and sides based on the daily polls.
So let's stop acting like the hare.
Landslide? A landslide is like 1964, 1972, or 1984. Would I like a landslide? Sure. But it's clear from the polls that we won't experience those elections. But I will be happy to eat these words if it happens.
The Dems have been starved for a majority victory for so long (Clinton never got'em) that winning with a majority seems like a landslide.
Winning the White House isn't the only issue here. Because if there is some sort of political mandate, you better believe the Dems will be under tremendous pressure to fix things. And it won't do any good to tell people that the GOP had the controls for a lot longer recently.
I have stated repeatedly that the twin problems of financial meltdown and peak oil on the next administration may seriously implode whichever party is in power... because they will be blamed for the result, despite these issues brewing for a while. (I have already girded myself for the inevitable racist comments when Obama doesn't fix everything overnight... they will come sure as you reading this.)
If you want to see a glimpse at some other issues about how much "change" is taking the country, I suggest you google "California prop 8" -- which stands a good chance at winning.
Many people are voting for change, not out of optimism, but out of fear. That's a dangerous landslide to win.
Careful what you wish for.
So let's all go out and vote in a week and a half, let's win the election, and then let's start the real battle.

I have already taken the 5th off--I won't be of use to anybody anyway. I am excited but wary regarding the polls and some part of me just wants this to be over...
I will be buying a bottle of champagne, however, just in case this thing ends earlier in the night than the last two.

I live in Minneapolis, and in a moment of temporary insanity I actually seriously considered driving to
Chicago to take part in the festivities, live and in person. A friend of mine convinced me to watch from the comfort of his living room, rather than freezing my ass off in Grant Park. I'll be knocking on doors this weekend. Must keep working. Just. One. More. Step. Must. Not. Sleep. Snore...... Huh, what? LANDSLIDE!
October 24, 2008 4:31 PM | Reply | Permalink
Stop with the landslide talk already! It interferes with my hand-wringing. I don't want to take anything for granted and still have a sense of nervous wariness. I will organize canvassing again this weekend, next too. I'm not really sensing a "it's in the bag" mentality here, people are really enthusiastic to work for the campaign.
Nevertheless I booked my room in Chi. I will definitely be there Nov. 4 freezing my ass off in Grant park. I couldn't imagine a better place to be. It's getting hard to contain my excitement.

Michelle and Barack would really kick your a$$ if they could read you...
So enough with the gloating. Seriously. I'll second clearthinker and express my disappointment that this made rec list.
Not the tone we want the campaign or its supporters to take. If you don't feel that you've not been listening to Barack or Michelle...Cmon!
Let's stay classy and gracious to the end. Time enough to celebrate on Nov 4th.
