I was remarking to my husband the other night that to hear some people talk, the moment Obama finishes that oath of office, the sun will come out, the trees will burst into bloom, the birds will start singing and all that will be left to complete America Lives Happily Ever After will be the Three Fairies turning Michelle's gown pink and blue at the Inaugural Ball.

The reality will be far different and Joe clearly sees it: the economy is not going to magically fix itself for love of Barack. People in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel/Palestine, Iran, etc. aren't going to start holding hands and singing "Kumbaya" because we have President Obama. Yes, something will happen, whether it's North Korea doing an about-face, or Israel needing to make some sort of point or some event no one sees coming. And of course natural disasters are beyond anyone's ability to foresee or control.

My extended family/friends (around 100+ people) have been actively boycotting the Ontario Galleria (right by San Berdoo) for years after clerks in the stores treated one of our dearest friends, a wonderful, kind, generous lady, like trash. She just happens to be very well off and could buy a significant chunk of their stores, but she committed the offense of SWM (Shopping While Mexican).

These people need to get a clue once and for all.

Yes, this is serious because of the groundwork it lays and needs to be stomped on at every opportunity or we will watch as the election gets stolen yet again.

Everybody who cares anything at all about preserving the right to vote in this country needs to get on this and expose it for the sham it is. Congressional Democrats need to mobilize, local Democratic party people need to mobilize, and every Democratic candidate ought to be pounding on this message until the MSM can't ignore it any longer.

People in this country are only just beginning to wake up to the fact that politicians and Wall Street have been lying to them for at least the last 100 years. A lot of people won't be able to deal with it.

First the natural balance was messed with in the name of profits: the potato (not indigenous to Ireland) was introduced in the first place as a low-maintenance food crop for the tenant farmers so that all the grain could be exported for the financial benefit of the absentee (for the most part) British landlords. It caused a huge population spike--so that when the potato crops failed down the road, the death rate was even higher than it would have been.

Then generous doses of religious bigotry and ignorance were added in: A number of those in a position to mitigate the disaster viewed it as their Protestant God showing his displeasure against the Roman Catholic Irish. The more scientifically-minded viewed it as proof of the validity of applying Darwin's "survival of the fittest" principal to society.

And yes, it caused a huge migration, to the Liverpool area or the US, for those who could afford it. Packed into steerages with next to no sanitation, it was no wonder so many, especially women and small children, didn't survive the voyage.
