Pogo was right....
In the midst of being absolutely appalled (but not entirely surprised) at McShame/Barbiecuda taking the election down this road.....
On the one hand, this is making the conspiracy theorist in me (otherwise known as the student of history) spend far more time than I should gaming and seeing the signs of the possible revolution that ends the US of A as we know it. This naked effort to get the fringies riled up, coupled with the sudden full court press on the "voter fraud" bamboozle has all the earmarks of groundwork being laid to steal an election that has long passed the point of being winnable. Or--if Obama wins by such a stunning landslide that even the most rabid diehard 2-percenter has to concede he's been legitimately elected, have so much agitation, resentment and fear already simmering amongst said fringie/racist types that it won't be that difficult to stir up enough civil disorder to justify declaring martial law (what they--ironically in this scenario--call CoG--"Continuance of Government").
So why couldn't the GOP just be content with letting the Dems have their turn in the White House? After all, they can come back in four years and blame Obama for everything from oil shortages to dying polar bears to failure to cure the common cold.
Maybe...because there are skeletons in the White House closets far worse than what's come to light so far. Maybe....certain people with names like Cheney and Rove and Bush and Gonzales, to start with, are actively afraid of their "legacy" turning out to be prison stripes and need to make sure they've got someone reliable in the White House to crank out those pardons as needed. Maybe.....when Rove talked about permanent Republican rule, he knew it could ultimately come to having to stage a revolution and the groundwork has already been laid....
And on the other hand....
While I absolutely abhor this crap, I think it's a damn good, cathartic thing that we're seeing the undercurrent of racism, xenophobia and bigotry that exists in this country show itself in this undeniable fashion. For too long too many people have gotten too comfy assuring themselves that this sort of thinking is a Relic of An Unfortunate Past and only to be found nowadays amongst a tiny fringe of the mentally unbalanced or else amongst the poor and uneducated (or all three). There's far more to it than that, it's far more pervasive than we want to think and it's high time people are a bit more honest about the issue if we're to have any chance of surviving as anything remotely resembling a republic.
We have met the enemy and he is indeed us.....
