There Will Be A Public Option or There Will Be Blood

The need for a public healthcare plan, singlepayer or robust public option, that utilizes  the existing resources of the United States government: National Institutes of Health(NIH), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), and possibly delivered through a consortium of our finest university, not-for-profit, and community medical centers of excellence: Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine, University of Louisville Healthcare, Geisinger Health System, Oregon Health&Science, The Health Center at Plainfield, etc..  is a no-brainer.

That such a system appears less than 90% likely of implementation indicates that the Republic is frozen and hopelessly beyond repair within the existing congressional framework. The Legislative branch of government has been hijacked by

health insurance lobbyists, where decisions are clearly not based on science and reasoned analysis but on lobbyist crafted directives

to protect their market (monopolistic) positions. What to do these lobbyists expect from our Representatives and Senators in return for cash payments? They are paying elected members of congress to ignore best evidence and champion legislation not in the best interest of Citizens. This is very unseemly, but unfortunately not without precedent, as the recent matter of the vile and contemptible former congressman and current big Pharma shill Billy Tauzin Suggests ( refer to http://bit.ly/6ECwa &  http://bit.ly/qFzN7).   

The real reform of our lifetime is the reform of the legislative branch of government. Senators and Representatives who have  accepted cash from health insurance lobbyists have effectively recused ( Judges are compelled to do this ) themselves from the deliberative process and nullified their vote. They are derelict in their duty to the Citizenry, and a threat to representative democracy.They have legitimized cronyism, graft and corruption, creating a permanent kleptocracy. The Gang of Six, Blue Dogs, Republicans, etc,. should be removed from office with all deliberate speed. 

The need for a 21st century constitutional update is clear. Modern technology, science, and  finance have made it necessary to update the qualifications of those who serve in the legislative branch. They should probably have to take an aptitude test. There is a huge democracy deficit in the senate. It should be modified to share power with a direct Citizen action component. Direct lobbying of congress should be illegal. Let the General Accountability Office (GAO) vet all lobbyist proposals.  These changes must be made now or the path of the congress as a house of Earls, Barons, and Viscounts will be continue.
