After watching Linda Chavez testify at the Sotomayor hearing today, I was reminded how down right bitchy women in the Republican party can be.  Not all  women, but certainly the Conservative movement types - Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram, Michelle Bachmann, Bey Buchannan, Elizabeth Hasselback and yes, Sarah Palin.  They were bitter when Republicans were in power and worse when they are out!

 

Can somebody explain to me what these harpies are so upset about?

Okay, I'll keep this short and sweet, because I really just need to confirm I am not alone out here. But, does anybody else feel that progressives have a weakness when it comes to challenging talking points, whether they come from the left or the right. Is it an innate sense of fairness that demands we give serious consideration to every cockamamie thought that pierces our eardrum? Case in point, Roland Burriss is a respectable public servant and highly qualified to be the Jr. Senator from Illinois. But, because he was appointed by Blogo, his service will be tainted.  This is the same body that stood and applauded Ted Stevens after he had been indicted.  This is the same body that has not uttered a word about all the scandals that have dogged Norm Coleman. You insert the name of your favorite Senator ___________________and I will provide you with a potential scandal that is worse that Roland Buriss being appointed by Blogo.  TAINTED?  P L E A S E ! ! ! !

According to Political Wire, Jessie Jackson Jr. is pushing hard for Obama's Senate seat, should he win the presidency. Just curious about opinions on that ~

Illinois political insiders say Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), "who defended Barack Obama after his father famously threatened to castrate him, is the favorite to replace the Democratic nominee in the Senate," according to The Hill.

Said Jackson: "If Sen. Obama wins -- and I'm optimistic that he will, I indeed would be honored and humbled to succeed him in the U.S. Senate. But, in the end, the decision rests with Gov. Blagojevich and I'm confident that he'll make an appointment in the best interest of the state as well as the nation."

 

I have spent time in North Carolina and know that there are some good people there. But, I still have always been somewhat suspect of a place that would elect Jessie Helms and their representative. Recent events in the state have done little to dissuade my concerns that NC can be a very mean place.

 

On Sun., Oct. 19th as Obama stopped by Cape Fear BBQ in Fayetteville, North Carolina some patrons yelled, "Socialist, Socialist, Socialist -- get out of here." Obama was across the room at the time and did not appear to hear Diane Fanning, 54, who was among several patrons who had just come by after services at the local Presbyterian church. She said she was annoyed that the Illinois senator had stopped in at the restaurant that she regularly visits.

 

Later that evening, authorities say someone slashed tires on at least 30 parked vehicles while their owners were attending a Barack Obama rally in a North Carolina coliseum.
The Fayetteville Observer reported the tires were cut outside Fayetteville's Crown Coliseum. One driver said it cost $120 to get her van towed and repaired.

 

Also on Sunday, a day of worship in God's Country, as so many right-wing Christians like to refer to NC,  a BEAR cub was shot in the head and dumped, draped in Barack Obama campaign posters, on the grounds of a US university.

Police at Western Carolina University said maintenance workers found the carcass of the 34kg bakc bear cub yesterday morning, the Asheville Citizen-Times website reported.

"It looked like it had been shot in the head as best we can tell. A couple of Obama campaign signs had been stapled together and stuck over its head," said university police chief Tom Johnson.

"Someone evidently was wanting to draw attention to the election."

 

I would love to see Barack Obama win this state and prove to me that there are good people there who will not tolerate their home being represented by the likes of racist that have been so prominent in the past.

On Monday, 9/1 Reuters reported "The 17-year-old unmarried daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child". You now have Republican's tripping all over themselves saying how this is a story that involves a candidate's child and should not be the fodder of Presidential politics.  This raises several questions in my mind. 

(1)   Couldn’t Sarah Palin have rebutted the rumors of her being the actual mother of her disabled child, without outing her and divulging that her daughter was currently pregnant?

(2)   What kind of mother throws her own daughter under the bus like this, knowing how the national press was going to go after this story?

(3)   If she was not aware that the national press would chase this story to the degree they have, doesn’t that say she is not ready for prime time politics?

(4)   Could this have just been a convenient way of Republican’s getting the issue out and trying to switch the story to those mean liberal bloggers, instead of the obvious hypocritical contradictions in the “family values” party position?

(5)   Why should this story be off limits now, when it wasn’t off limits to Sarah Palin, who used it to further her own political career?

AP is reporting Joe Lieberman will be speaking at the Republican Convention. I sure hope Al Gore takes the stage at the Democratic convention and opens his speech with, "I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel".                      Associated Press
