I'm not a tough guy, in fact I'm your typical bleeding heart liberal.

But recently my teenage sons were talking about how they'd never seen me cry. Ever. I didn't realize it, but it was true.

Last night that changed, as they saw tears of joy streaming down my cheeks as our new President talked to us.

They understood.

I am so proud, elated, and hopeful.

Great post.

My nine-year-old daughter filled out the presidential choice on my absentee ballot. We video-taped it and I think I'll put it on the utube and post a link on TPM.

This is one she'll remember her whole life. She made her own campaign posters and yard signs. Last night when I put her to bed we talked about how we hoped the world would change today.

This feels about a hundred times more important than any election in my life.

I'm finding that drinking Redhook ESB Ale has been helping tremendously.

In 2000 I was driving home from work when they called Pennsylvania for Gore. I yelled and honked my horn because I knew this meant Gore had won - Florida had already been called for Al and the map showed no realistic way for Bush to win. I was elated.

Ten minutes later when I got home the networks had taken Florida away - and you know the rest. I was up all night watching and getting more bummed out by the minute. Part of me had been bummed out for the eight years since.

I am really really really looking forward to the end of this nightmare, but as a Cubs fan I am not believing it until it happens. The anticipation is killing me too.
