Our new Secretary of State is.........
"Hillary Clinton to accept Obama's offer of secretary of state job".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/nov/17/hillary-clinton-secretary-of-state
Too bad haters but she is the best choice and the world is looking forward to working with her.
God bless the Clintons in getting our reputation back.

Nice scoop, gotalife. It's a good pick amongst many good candidates. Here's a toast to our country's future!

Congrats, gotalife! You were such a strong supporter - and I can share in your joy!
Peace.

I have no objections to Sen. Clinton serving as Sec. of State, and really don't want to throw cold water on your joy; but the article provides no confirmation from either Clinton or the Obama camp. In fact the report doesn't even cite unnamed sources, not even the sandwich shop employees.
There have been many reports today of the Obama folks "vetting" Bill Clinton's foundation.
I'm waiting for an announcement from Obama and/or Clinton or at least a report citing on the record sources.

I'm not convinced this is a done deal. Senator Clinton has the skills, experience and rolodex to be a highly effective SOS. I just can't get by the potential conflict(s) of interest presented by President Clinton's activities, both on his own account and on behalf of his foundation. With the Clintons, you get the whole package. I'm not sure it's possible for either of them to keep anything at arm's length.

Yo whoa this has not come out of the Obama camp. The vetting process is still on going. Can we please hold off the cheers or boos depending on your opinion until it really is official.

If people who didn't vote for Hillary are "haters," are those who voted for her "lovers?" Just curious, since you're into labeling.
--Also, what would the ClintonS do to get our country's reputation back, and would THEY have to work against the Obama administration to do it?
--How would that work out?
--How do you see a dual Sec'y of State (Clinton/Clinton) a plus for us? Specifics, please!
--What is wrong with Obama's international view?
--How would the ClintonS override it?
--Given the recent election, should they?
--Would that help our stature in the world?
--How?
I mean, you wrote this blog. Could you be a little more specific about your assumptions/conclusion? Thanks

Poor Josh will have to let go of the Clinton hate:
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/244782.php
President Obama is picking the best and brightest the Dems have to offer. Yes, they are the Clinton team and they have the experience and knowledge to get things passed.
Looking at his response to Joe Lieberman (letting bygones, be bygones) it looks like he is going to kill them with kindness and actually go for unity. Talk about change.
No drama Obama indeed.

Josh Marshall on the Guardian scoop:
Walking it back:
Marshall is pissed he was scooped by the Brits of all people. LOL!

LOL. Too funny.
At least, Josh is not as bad as tweety:
"Chris Matthews Overheard Trashing Clinton: "She's Just A Soap Opera"
Or
"Obama's most dangerous foe remains now who it has always been.
And she's not a Republican."
-- Andrew Sullivan
And the many others with CDS.

I think these two former political rivals can do wonders for this country. Obama is shrewd and courageous, what a move it is picking Clinton for SecState if it actually goes through.

This seems to be rumor and I hope that this is all it is. Her ex-president husband presents too many issues to make her viable as SOS.
However I never hated Hillary... didn't support her for president... never hated her.
I don't really do 'hate'... with the exception that I 'hate it when' people throw their cigarette butts on the ground... had to be something...

That article, while probably eventually true, has the appearance of complete nonsense. I'm always suspicious of a writer who "pads out" a piece with paragraphs of completely unrelated fluff in order to justify publishing an unsubstantiated rumor. Note there are no sources listed. "The Guardian has learned." Ah, the Guardian has learned. That explains it.

Seconded. I have to agree with Josh, too, about it not being an American source.
I'm not completely opposed to Hillary at Sec. of State. I just think that Bill presents way too much baggage. And I think there are other people that would be better for the job. But if she gets the job, eh... I really have nothing negative to say about it.

Richardson would be a much better choice for SoS and he wouldn't bring the media drama that Clinton brings. She would only hinder Obama's efforts.
November 18, 2008 10:18 AM | Reply | Permalink
Please. Richardson is a milquetoast in comparison to Clinton. At this moment in history, Obama needs a strong personality for SoS. Clinton is strong.
November 18, 2008 11:45 AM | Reply | Permalink
There are other "strong personalities" besides that would fill the role quite well.
Of course, it always depends on how you define "strong personality". With such a vague statement, one could argue that Bill Richardson is a very strong personality.

Nix on the Guardian as a reliable source for American political news. Puff puff, tut tut, harumph, old top! Ribbit!

On a different note... I don't wanna be a pest, gotalife, because I truly enjoy your avatar... But Palin is such old news, man! ;)
