Mike Turner is in trouble - the always-Republican Fox News has declared Congressman Turner's district a potential upset this November. Of course, signs have pointed to this for some time now. Democratic voter registration increased this year, and the Obama campaign has averaged registering 3,000 new voters a week in the city of Dayton. Even Fox News can't ignore the Democratic strength in OH-3.

Fox says: Key Races - Midwest: OH 3 (Potential for upset): Mike Turner (R) has a rematch with his 2004 opponent, Jane Mitakides (D). The District is comprised of much of urban Dayton which helps with Obama at the top of the ticket. Plus absentee ballots heavily favor Democrats.

OH-3 keeps gaining momentum, and in Jane Mitakides' favor!

Yesterday, the Dayton Daily News' (DDN) Martin Gottlieb said Ohio's Third Congressional District is the best chance Democrats have to reclaim a seat in Southwest Ohio. In comparison to OH-2 or OH-7, OH-3 "is much more likely than the others to go Democratic." This is great news for Jane Mitakides (www.jane08.com), the Democratic candidate opposing Mike Turner, who, as Gottlieb writes, "has had certain political embarrassments," referring to the CREW report naming Turner to the 24 Most Corrupt in Congress. In August, Mother Jones reported on Turner's earmarking contracts to companies who hired Turner's wife, Lori.

Jane is a popular and well-endorsed candidate. OH-3 has Montgomery County, which includes the city of Dayton, at the heart of the district. The DDN says Montgomery Co. "leans Democratic even in an average year," which makes this race very winnable for Jane.

Dayton has received visits from Obama three times this summer, and McCain announced Palin as his VP here, too. OH-3 is a crucial district for the presidential race, and the DDN said 2008 "offers the Democrats their best shot."
