I thought the clothes were a big deal only i the sense that it's the sort of thing that was made to be a big deal, as attacks against Democrats. I don't give a damn whether politicians wear flag lapel pins or not, but if Democrats are going to be hassled about it, then how come Republicans don't wear them all the time either? Even Palin, I didn't see pictures of her wearing a flag pin before he was the running mate. (Except now of course she wears a huge rhinestone thing the size of a dinner plate.)

Probably more accurately: should be complete nonsense. But you know how it is in politics, events unattached to the campaigns themselves still affect them.

The other side of his statement was "if it's true, it will cause some voters to re-evaluate the Obama campaign." Nonsense, yes. But probably also true.
