Persecution Politics: Illegals to Steal Grandma's Heath Care

Last week, I wrote about Glenn Beck's paranoid theory that Obama's health care plan would covertly deliver slavery reparations by redistributing health care to African Americans. It turns out that black people aren't the only undeserving minorities after grandma's health care. Filling in for Rush Limbaugh, Mark Steyn of the National Review earned his airtime by inventing a whole new health care persecution fantasy:

And what's interesting is that under the whole death panel scenario, you know, you'll be an 87-year-old who's paid his taxes all his life, but they're not going to give you the procedure because they think it's more in the country's interest to give it to a 38-year-old illegal immigrant who shouldn't even be here in the first place.

Since bashing illegal immigrants is much more acceptable in polite society than bashing black people (earth to Glenn Beck), the big talk show hosts and maybe even a few legislators will probably tear into this latest bit like hungry hyenas.

Between Nazi comparisons, race-baiting, and immigrant bashing, the health care bill is like Christmas in August for conservative persecution addicts. They haven't had this much fun since Homeland Security warned of a terrorist threat from right wing extremists.

I have to admit something. Not that many years ago I was kind of drawn to fathead dobbs.

I mean he would go on and on bashing w and his administration.

And he would allude to 'our borders' and sometimes would touch on the fact that corps were making money by hiring 'illegals'.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH THAT? I thought.

But then I would 'catch it'

fathead was not talking about 'our borders' but one border.

And then there was the crap about leprosy. Then drugs. And on and on and on. There were those Socio-ethnocentric interest groups.

Oh I caught on, what...four years ago. It just took awhile.

But fathead and others are not so 'delicate' aboutall of this anymore. I mean it is completely in your face racist crap.

I certainly was not suprised that Matthews was thinking of running as a dem and it certainly was no surprise when fathead looked into running as a repub.

racism, demagoguery sells. Just wrap it into an issue. Any issue really. I mean who cares. It will work.

Unemployment--its the Hispanic's fault.

Health care--same

National debt--why not?

I have to agree with Dobbs on the hiring of illegals. Canadians should not be allowed to steal our jobs, especially those irritating francophones. Unless they trade us some of their healthcare.

Too bad they can't go back in time to protest passage of Medicare, which took grandma's health care and gave it to grandma. Too bad they can't be honest about just being stingy jerks.

Interesting article. Thanks for the link.

Oops, that comment was supposed to go to AnswerFrog (not that your point isn't a good one too, Tom).

I think this explains why the wingnut rhetoric is so unhinged from reality, and no amount of factchecking seems to stop them.

More recent research seems to confirm this view; studies have shown that when people are presented with an unassailable correction of misinformation, they tend to believe the myths even more fervently. (One study by Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler showed that conservatives are more likely than liberals to respond this way.)

On a sidenote, I think that demographics are really going to crush the GOP. Their kneejerk deepseated loathing of "illegals" makes it impossible to grab a good share of the Latino population. Every vile insult is another shovel load digging their own grave. (See: Mitt Romney, Florida, January 2008)

I just heard the most idiotic nonsense on NPR, seems that AmeriCorps is in "reality" a secret army that Obama is arming to take away everyone's guns and pre-empt the military.

Where do these morons come up with this crrrrap?

user-pic

Wow, I've been looking for the gun connection. You don't have the link to that, do you? I'll write it up.
