Roland, we hardly knew ye
There's nothing wrong with Roland Burris and there's nothing wrong with the appointment
Since Burris is out of the picture, Genghis would like to remind still-Governor Milorad "Rod" R. Blagojevich, (pronounced #$%!*$) of the $10 that Genghis sent him on Dec. 18th and the promises that the still-Governor made to Genghis at that time. As an American citizen over the age of 30, Genghis is eminently qualified to be Senator and as the 14th Jewish Senator would help to address the under-representation of Jews in the in Senate. Moreover, Genghis will not wilt like an unrefrigerated tomato in the face of Senatorial resistance. Like the still-Governor, Genghis doesn't give a damn about the nation or the Democratic Party. Genghis only wants four rent-controlled apartments in Manhattan, a house in the country with an extra floor inserted underneath it, and a few Scottish and Caribbean golf trips. Plus golf lessons because Genghis admits that he doesn't know how to golf. Genghis LOL's at the right-wing smear campaign accusing him of failing to represent Illinois. Genghis visited Chicago in September, and "he totally gets Illinois," according to Genghis. Genghis also promises to buy a house in a fancy Chicago suburb once he cashes in on his office.
Genghis thanks the still-Governor and promises to use the might of his Senate seat to ensure that such a great, selfless, eloquent man will never be penalized for absurd allegations. Genghis promises to ensure that the still-Governor will never be penalized either.

Its nothing personal Genghis. I really think it is your last name. Kahn. It rhymes with con and the Dems are attempting to put forward the best face, the best ad campaign as it were, during this time of crisis.
The Republicans have a Crapo in Utah, for instance. Crapo really has done nothing for his party as far as PR for his party.
You could change your name to Smith, Genghis Smith and send Blago a million dollars. That might work.
Send a picture of your birth certificate, name change and DL.

This has nothing to do with the Democrats or you ridiculous bloggers. This is between the still-Governor and Genghis. Still-Governor Blagojevich, by the way, is a firm supporter of the civil rights of all Americans with inconvenient last names and sits on the board of the NAAPWILN.
PS Genghis doesn't have a last name. You're thinking of some other Genghis.

Hey Miguel, just between you and me. Should we try to get this guy some help or something?

Hell, I might support him depending on his position on shutting down those slaughterhouses Sinclair Lewis wrote about around IL.

Miguel, I believe you were thinking of Upton Sinclair.
Oh, and they did shut those slaughterhouses down and the depravity and the gross exploitation of immigrants that The Jungle documented no longer occurs in the south side.
Nope, you have to look westward, generally to IA, NE, TX, WA, and such to find where it was all relocated and pretty much continues to this day.

Lets go with a fundraiser. I am already receiving psychiatric help and I do not think it is working for me so it probably wont help him any.

Ok, Genghis, you've got a deal...
But only if you hold your Senate Inauguration Party aboard an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River where I promise to get the Dave Matthews Band to provide the entertainment. I will suggest for their playlist "Big Eyed Fish" from their bootleg album "The Lillywhite Sessions," if only for the titles themselves. On your guest list should be Gov. Blagojevich (pronounced as "asshat" in Slovenian) along with Burris, Reid, and the rest of the Senate Leadership.
As for me? I'll watch from shore, thank you very much.

Genghis learned all about this egregious assault on the pristine waters of the Chicago river and other issues of import to Illinoisans during his Chicago meet-and-greet tour. He assures the good people of Illinois that as their legally appointed Senator, he will aggressively pursue rock stars and other celebrities who abuse the Prairie State and ensure that that they pay for their crimes through appropriate channels.

Orlando is not amused. But We are going to start address any elected official whom we do not care for with "Still-". It's inspired. Orlando might not even limit its usage to elected officials.
For example, Still Journalist David Gregory was not a good choice for Meet the Press. Orlando likey.

Does that mean I need to change my name, or just add another reason to feel guilty to my rapidly growing list? :-)

Also, since I had the name first, I want some sort of royalties paid every time it is used...

No Stilli, I am used to your name. But I had a chat with Miguel and I am worried about Genghis. He forgot his last name.
SHHHH dont tell him

Some people will always find reasons to hate. Genghis is proud of his fundraising work and knows that the still-Governor respects him for it. Genghis regrets only that he has but one shirt to sell.

Scandalous. Yet where, exactly, is the shirt?

I were a still-Governor or if I lived in Illinois - you'd be a shoo-in.

And just why, exactly, Mr. kgb would that stop you? Hell, looks like anything goes in this case! Go ahead, name Genghis to the post. It can't hurt, and you just might get lucky and win this week's kewpie doll in the Dem Senatorial circular firing squad!

Genghis welcomes the endorsement of still-blogger kgb999, one of the finest bloggers on the internet today. Genghis regrets that he cannot offer any financial compensation to kgb999 at this time, as he spent his entire war-chest on still-Governor Blagojevich, but he promises to reward him with an earmark of his choice.

Thank you, Bruce. If Genghis wins, he will take your son under his wing and show him the ways of Washington so that you will be set for retirement.

I want nothing to do with this.
Though I recommended the "post" - I won't "deal" with the poster on this issue. Past history can't be dragged into this. Nor can the future. This is like that one Supreme Court decision - which I repudiate by the way - where they decided something "just for this one case."
I rest my case.

Genghis doesn't mind. He takes his recs wherever he can them.
He also has decided to offer free earmarks to everyone who recommends his posts. Please enter earmark requests in the comments section.

Genghis,
You lost my vote when you didn't play fair with the facts. Jews are hardly underrepresented in the Senate as Jews in the US are only about 2% of the population.
Why should I trust you with budgets if you can't do simple arithmetic?
On a more serious note: I am always amazed to see the distractions people will come up with to avoid acting more serious topics. This whole Burris-thing is a media frenzy that will be replaced by the next media frenzy.
Besides, why don't you get yourself appointed Senator from NY? At least you have residency there -- and I daresay you seem far more politically qualified than Caroline Kennedy.

Since this is the only discussion about Burris and Blagojevich, can someone tell me.
Does the Governor have a vested right to appoint or a contingent one?
January 6, 2009 10:28 PM | Reply | Permalink
I don't know the difference between "vested" and "contingent", but it's directly enumerated in the 17th Amendment
"When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the Senate, the executive authority of such state shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies."
looks "Vested" from my view, but, IANAL

I was thinking in terms as this. Blago could say ‘by the powers vested in me, I appoint Mr. Burris.
Or does the Illinois Constitution suggest or imply to any elected official,
By the powers I have received, it is implied that these powers are contingent upon my oath to faithfully and lawfully follow the laws, and that if I have been charged with a crime, my rights are suspended.
In other words my powers are CONTINGENT upon my conduct in Office.

To use an example: Imagine the Executor of a Will (the WILL of the people. This Executor named R Blagoavich, arbitrarily decides to breach the contract. He decides that Mr. Burris being a fine gentleman, should receive a benefit because “he’s a fine gentleman and he wants to receive benefits”
I being a party to the Will, question the Executors breach. I request a hearing to determine if the breach has occurred. Let’s not allow the Executor to exercise arbitrarily.
