First Book Press: How Bill O'Reilly Saved Christmas
Hey folks. Sorry that I haven't been around TPM Café much lately. I've been hunkering
down to work on my upcoming book, How Bill O'Reilly Saved Christmas.
But I'm popping my head up briefly to announce my first piece of press,
a blog article at the Washington
Post. Check it out to see me answer probing questions like "What is
the single most resilient myth you will crush in the book?", "How will
conservatives react to your analysis?", "Is it true that you once saved
the nation of Liechtenstein from an army of Ann Coulter clones?" (As an added bonus, you can even find out my secret identity in the real world.)
I've also just discovered, via self-googling, that my book is now available on Amazon. Sign up now for the pre-order sale price. (And yes, I will be flacking my book at every opportunity for the rest of the year.)
PS I know that the description of me as a "contributor to TPM" isn't quite accurate, and I've chastised my publisher.

Best luck, sir, and thanks for all the fish.

Congratulations Genghis! You give "good interview."

It was an email interview, which made it easier.

Way to go, Genghis! Since the US "dollar" will be worth around 11 cents Canadian by Christmas, I aim to buy a gross of your book.
You may thank me later, when you're firmly ensconced at the top of the IPad Bestsellers list.

That's why I put all my savings into moose turds. Safer than gold.

Excellent! Definitely will order!
(And you are a valued TPM contributor! As I'm sure all here will attest to!)

I'll be damned. I had no idea you were a liberal-gay-black-socialist-secularist-fascist-feminist-immigrant.

I try not to make a big deal about it.

Make sure you give us a heads-up for your book tour schedule so we can fill Barnes & Nobles around the country to standing room only.
Dude, if your book comes out in early October, when is your ms due to the publisher? Like, next month? Or last month?

I'll be there. (Moose turd in hand.)

It's due in June. They want to rush it to press in time for the election.
I'm sure that there will be a NYC event. I think that the publisher only pays for a national book tour if there is sufficient buzz, so the rest will depend on how well the book does. But I promise to publish whatever schedule there is at TPM.

Looking forward to it. Try to get them to pay to send you to the Midwest too.
Good luck with the rest of the writing; it'll be a haul, but you've got time. ;-)

You were probably the first contributor to TPM I ever read back in 08.
You were my first commenter.
DAMN RIGHT YOU'RE A TPM CONTRIBUTOR.
HA!!!

Congrats, Genghis!
But Please! Flack your book; don't flog it!
I'm going to order your book!

Ha. I'd always thought that it was "flog." I guess that I'd only heard the term. Thanks for the correction. I will fix. Hopefully, there won't be any of those embarrassments in the book itself, as books are not very fixable--like TPM comments.
March 16, 2010 2:45 PM | Reply | Permalink
No, you were correct and flogging is quite acceptable in this case. One of the definitions is 'to promote/publicize aggressively' which you should definitely do with regard to a book. (See thefreedictionary.com or merriam-webster.com.)

Ah thanks. Then I'm happy to concede the point, and I would flog and flack.

I'll bring a whole wardrobe and change my shirt every few seconds.

That's fantastic. Actually, I'd like to see TPM, including the establishment not just the Cafe fanatics, get behind you on this. I think you're the first Cafe denizen to have a book come out!

Da Capo is a fantastic publisher, by the way. They did my pal Fake Steve Jobs' book. And now he's got a movie deal!
March 17, 2010 8:16 AM | Reply | Permalink
Somehow, I don't think How Bill O'Reilly Saved Christmas is getting a movie deal. But thanks, I'm very happy with Da Capo, and my editor has been great.
