Irresponsible Rhetoric for Political Gain = Rick Perry
Governor Rick Perry, it seems, is getting votes anyway he can. Some might back away from inciting a crowd of pro-gun tax protesters to turn against their own country, but not good ol' Rick.
Rick Perry's message to his fellow teabaggers was crystal clear. If you vote for me, I will consider seceding from the union in the future. Of course, in reality, Perry plans no such thing.
What Perry is doing is simply gathering votes. You see, Perry is going to run for a third term in 2010. Of course, no Democrat is going to rival him, but if Senator Kay Baily Hutchison decides to run against him, she will likely be the favorite to win. What is the best way for Perry to defeat a very popular US Senator? Separate himself from Washington. He wants Texans to view him as the small man against big government now so that later he can pin all of America's ills on Hutchison.
Also running for Texas Governor in 2010 is Larry Kilgore, who is an open secessionist. Perry, with his remarks, can save votes from going to Kilgore by appearing to consider a future secession.
I just wish he'd think about the consequences of his words. American lives could be lost in the result of a Texas secession.
Now if Perry wins the election, what will he do next to stay in power? Perhaps then he really WOULD seriously consider secession, but for now, he is just pandering to the wing nuts.
On a side note, this whole TEA Party business seems a little ironic. There was a local TEA Party in our county, and I watched some of the footage on the news. I got a good laugh at the signs saying "No More Taxes!" and "Secede Now!". The people holding the signs are the same ones with the little yellow ribbons on the back of their trucks that say "Support Our Troops". You support our troops AND don't want to pay taxes? Interesting. When I expressed my opposition to the war in Iraq years ago, I was made to feel unpatriotic and that I should support the "Best Nation on Earth!" Now, in just a few months, a lot of the same people are saying that we should secede? I have to laugh to keep from crying.

That's why we have to organize the youth vote in Texas and make it blue. In 2008, voters aged 18-24 were almost evenly split between the parties, if we can get more young people involved and convince moderates to embrace Democrats then we'll win more elections.

Our great country was born in an act of secession.
Rick Perry is probably nothing more than a grandstanding fool, but in his company he has most of the American Political Leadership.
Too many here think in terms of a linear right-left framework. You think that George Bush was a right-wing conservative and Barack Obama is a left-wing liberal. The truth is BOTH are statists. Both seek central control over personal liberty. Democrats preach economic slavery whilst Republicans preach social slavery.
Diversity is good, especially in government policy. The Tenth Amendment enshrined the Founder's belief in Federalism. The States were to be the many laboratories of different government policies. If two states disagree on how to govern, all 50 states profit by seeing the results. State competition produces good governance.
Both Republicans and Democrats use the central government to implement their policies nationally by FORCE. And they've done it by bypassing, misinterpreting, and destroying our Constitution. Their impatience destroys our chance to know what good governance really looks like.
Study the Constitution. Listen to Ron Paul. If the Government is no longer bound by the Chains of the Constitution, the People have the right to reimpose new Chains. Secession or Revolution or Otherwise.

I personally believe if Texas did secede that both Texas and the United States would be the worse for it. Most of the outrage going on at the moment isn't from concern over honoring the Constitution, but from the fear, panic, and desperation going on due to the economic collapse, which will strengthen the conservative movement as people yearn for someone to make it simple for them.

thanx toad. perry blithely blathers about secession without a thought of the brave soldiers lying in their graves who died protecting the union. perry stands accused by me of pure political terrorism made possible by the defense offered by the brave men and women in the field....in my opinion auch comments put our soldiers directly in harms way...this cannot be the same party that screams "PATRIOTISM" ..this cannot.
